This song perfectly balances the feelings of complete sadness and, yet, self-righteous anger someone who has been broken up with feels. and a lot of the anger is because the other person can move on and usually the one who has been left finds it harder to. and i love how he makes excuses for it. he's trying to undermine how completely heartbroken he is to make it seem like he doesn't care. just ignore the blood on the floor, it's just that heart that i keep on my sleeves for you bleeding. he feels like looking strong will make him feel better when all he really wants to do is catch fire and break down.

the way he says it so resignedly and simply. the candidness is startling and heartbreaking.... he sounds so destroyed and so harowed that it's tangible. it's palpable in sound of his voice. but ray writes beautiful songs and that's what a good song does. it engages you and makes you feel like you're a part of it until it becomes a part of you.

I also first heard this song during that episode of "rescue me." It was one of the most pivotal moments of the entire series, when the main character hits rock bottom, considers suicide, and ultimately decides to start attending AA meetings for the firts time in his life. It's one of the saddest songs I've ever heard, and his voice makes it all the more powerful. He's so lost and sad without her, but is still so stubborn and angry about it, making excuses for his crying and daring her to 'kiss the other man again just to prove that she can.' This song brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it.

Ray first caught my attention on an episode of House with his song "Sarah", and it captivated me. Now I know I have heard him in a couple of commercials too, but in listening to all of his albums, his music reaches a pure level of spirituality like very few other artists can. Unbelievable...

Right from when he says 'Oh mama' the pain fealt is evidient. Ray Lamontagne is so talented because he puts into words what most of us fail to say..

This song is so beautiful. Almost all of his songs are about heartbreak or loss, and while most of them seem to reflect unrequited love, this is about just plain losing someone that you need so much. I love the way he talks about his tears and emotions in such a real and physical way, yet makes it sound completely true and not cheesy at all.

This song was featured at the end of the 1st episode on the second season of "rescue me" and i must say, i've probably never seen such an emotional scene and it was mostly due to the song. I had to immediately find out who sang this song and download it. I've been listening to it constantly all day and everytime i can't believe the magnitude of his voice and the lyrics. What an incredible song. This is probably the single saddest (and not cheesy) song i've ever heard.

A beautiful song, Ray seems to have a real talent for expressing emotion without using cliches...

could listen to this song all day and not get bored of it. well good live as well. the line about the heart on his sleeve is quality.

A friend gave me tickets to see Ray a few years ago in Boulder, CO right when this stuff was coming out, and I had no idea who he was. What a great way to experience music, BTW, with no knowledge of whats coming. There was no band, just him and a guy playing stand up bass. But when he sang this song it absolutely floored the entire place. you could here a pin drop, it was unbelievable. I felt shell-shocked from it. Its definitely on record as one of the most moving performances I've ever seen, and I go to a lot of shows. If you get a chance, go see him!
