medication

i think i understand parts of this song, but so much of it is still mysterious. does anybody have some great insights? Even if i cant understand all of the meanings of the song i still think the music in this song is amazing!

(Here, I think that he is saying, just like a person who knows he is going to get bad news, God, let me hear it straight..I know it bad, but let me have it)

and you look so good it hurts and love, i come undone

(Understanding that in view of who God is and what we've done, sometimes it's a real shock at our own sins are so much and how with God's love, we can be stripped of all of that)

but i don’t want medication just give me liberation even if it cuts my legs right out from underneath don’t give me medication i want the real sensation even when living feels just like death to me

(Here is the key part of the song and what i think he's saying, He doesn't want a band-aid solution to all his problems, no simple little solution to make him feel better but not really change him--in other words, don't sugar coat it, if I have to completely change my life and lose these things that I think I love, I will do that. Let me have it. Even if it means that I have to go through a lot to get there.)

don't paint my face i need to see the scars so i don't forget the back of my tutor's arm

(Again, don't just fix the surface , I want the read deal.I need to know that God has done so much for me and here I am throwing all that away day in and day out--I need to be really affected)

'cause i just can't keep it straight which kills and which one saves

(Here, I think is a sign of confusion on his part. In other words, "I'm so messed up that I can't even tell anymore what things that I do are helping me and which ones are hurting me. I've lost focus.")

‘cause the truth is i need you just like the air i breathe just like a freight train needs the tracks beneath so i’d rather suffer my whole life and be this rich man’s wife if loving you means suffering

(Here, he explains his need for God. His sincere desire for change even if it means that following God will not be easy. He'd rather enjoy the riches of God and "suffer" than live his life as a lie. As a facade. If loving God means "suffering" it is far better to endure that now than live a lie.)
