If Heaven Lyrics
If heaven was an hour it would be twilight
When the fireflies start their dancin' on the lawn
And supper's on the stove and mama's laughin'
And everybody's working day is done
If heaven was a town it would be my town
On a summer day in 1985
And everything I wanted was out there waiting
And everyone I loved was still alive
Chorus:
Don't cry a tear for me now baby
Comes a time we all must say goodbye
And if that's what heaven's made of
You know I ain't afraid to die
If heaven was a pie it would be cherry
Cool and sweet and heavy on the tongue
And just one bite would satisfy your hunger
And there'd always be enough for everyone
If heaven was a train it sure would be a fast one
To take this weary traveler round the bend
And if heaven was a tear it'd be my last one
And you'd be in my arms again
Repeat Chorus
When the fireflies start their dancin' on the lawn
And supper's on the stove and mama's laughin'
And everybody's working day is done
On a summer day in 1985
And everything I wanted was out there waiting
And everyone I loved was still alive
Don't cry a tear for me now baby
Comes a time we all must say goodbye
And if that's what heaven's made of
You know I ain't afraid to die
Cool and sweet and heavy on the tongue
And just one bite would satisfy your hunger
And there'd always be enough for everyone
To take this weary traveler round the bend
And if heaven was a tear it'd be my last one
And you'd be in my arms again

I lost my wife to cancer 3 years and this song reminded me so much of her that I played it at her funeral. I still get choked up about it every now and then. I don't necessarily believe you have to be religious to understand the significance of the song however. For me, it was that my wife so strongly battled the disease, yet expected no sympathy, and didn't want anyone feeling sorry for her. Her beliefs lead her to believe that this was just one step in her journey and she wasn't afraid of what was to come.
As like everybody else says when they're the first to comment on a song... I CAN'T BELIEVE NO ONE HAS COMMENTED ON THIS SONG YET! But really... this song is about somebody that has a certain time left to live his life... And he wants to reassure his loved ones that if Heaven is what it's made up to be, he's not afraid to leave his pain.
I know, i'm not one to beliave in a god or heaven, and heaven but, for the frist time i have found a country song about heavan that dosent suck.I think what he's saying is as long as you think about the good things in your life all the time, then you have no reason to fear death.i think this song is beauitful
