I think this song is about disillusion and feeling that you don't fit in with your friends anymore because they don't seem to comprehend you anymore.
i think it's written in the viewpoint of the person who is getting left behind in a relationship like they see their friend is changing and growing up and they can't relate anymore.
and the idea of bowling is referenced to an old pastime they shared.
I love this song. It embodies teen apathy perfectly. Things you used to enjoy don't provoke any feeling at all. You watch the same movie over and over, even though you already know how it ends. I've been there.
