This song is indeed a cover, but I think they chose to cover this song because Dallas(the vocals at the time) dedicated to his fiance, who died in his arms.

This would be an absolutely incredible song if Underoath had written it, but hearing the original first makes it sound a bit...lame. However, I think they've adapted it to their sound pretty well, and yeah, I agree with calamity on dallas' personal interpretation of the song.
