Mississippi Queen Lyrics
Mississippi queen
If you know what I mean
Mississippi queen
She taught me everything
Went down around Vicksburg
Around Louisiana way
Lived the Cajun lady
Aboard the Mississippi Queen
You know she was a dancer
She moved better on wine
While the rest of them dudes were gettin' their kicks
Boy, I beg your pardon, I was gettin' mine
Mississippi queen
If you know what I mean
Mississippi queen
She taught me everything
This lady she asked me
If I would be her man
You know that I told her
I'd do what I can
To keep her lookin' pretty
Buy her dresses that shine
While the rest of them dudes were makin' their friends
Boy, I beg your pardon, I was loosin' mine
You know she was a dancer
She moved better on wine
While the rest of them dudes were gettin' their kicks
Boy, I beg your pardon, I was gettin' mine
Yeah, Mississippi queen
If you know what I mean
Mississippi queen
She taught me everything
Around Louisiana way
Lived the Cajun lady
Aboard the Mississippi Queen
She moved better on wine
Boy, I beg your pardon, I was gettin' mine
If you know what I mean
Mississippi queen
She taught me everything
If I would be her man
You know that I told her
I'd do what I can
Buy her dresses that shine
Boy, I beg your pardon, I was loosin' mine
She moved better on wine
Boy, I beg your pardon, I was gettin' mine

According to Corky Laing, the writer of 'Mississippi Queen': Back in August of '69, we were playing at a funky beach club called 30 Acres. It was the hottest summer ever in Nantucket, and one night the power blew [out] across the entire island! ... A buddy of mine had a girlfriend with him at the club who was visiting from Mississippi. She had on a see-through dress -- I can still remember this; she was amazing! Look, there were also Dexedrine in my system, and I was on overdrive. I looked at this beautiful girl and began screaming this song, 'cause there was no power.
It seems to me this song is about dating a down-south stripper. "She moved better on wine" refers to the fact that most strippers have drug/alcohol addiction issues.
Great song!
Simple. I think this song is about a down-south prostitute. Great song, though.
the lyrics and drum parts were written by corky laing, the drummer from mountain. before he joined mountain, he was in a different band called energy. one time when they were putting on a concert, in new hampshire i think, the power went out so the only instrument that would work is the drums and corky laing noticed a girl dancing that interested him and he started playing drums to the beat of her dancing and shouting out thes lyrics. when he later joined up with mountain, he showed lesley west what he had witten and lesley west added the rest of the parts of this song.
inmyhead, that's awesome, thanks for the info. this is just a great summer song for the dirty roads. these guys saved the world in those no cream days :)
I did like this song. But dont hate me for saying this (to any hardcore mountain fans....) but I liked Ozzy's remake better.
Leslie West (the guitarist on this song) is the same guitarist on the Ozzy cover.
Pretty good song, one of Mountains best, if not THE best. They almost sound like Lynard Skynard in this one.
Oh, and Ozzy sucks so don't say that. I'm not even a hardcore Mountain fan, and I know that.
@Mr. No Name You mean Skynard almost sounds like Mountain.

ozzy isn't bad, but even though he had leslie west playing guitar on his version of this song, it was just horrible. this is not the kind of music that ozzys voice was meant sing.
"that's how a white man plays guitar."
True dat. Seriously sick riffs here, they be jammin'
