In Times Gone Past Lyrics
I see it in your eyes
The tearing in your heart
As I awaken I learn first
First of dying
And lying inside the ground forgotten
I learn of love
I learn of terror
I feel the curse inside my body
My God, my God
Why have you forsaken me and put this curse inside my body?
We live within a curse and within the divine
We're born and raised to work
And then grow old and die
(In our golden time)
Strange
Cut and burnt then thrown into the tied
I have lived and died
Lie beneath the ground
Ascend into the sky
I feel the earth spinning slow
And winding down with the sun
I feel the curse inside my body
Running through my veins into my mind
The tearing in your heart
As I awaken I learn first
First of dying
I learn of love
I learn of terror
I feel the curse inside my body
Why have you forsaken me and put this curse inside my body?
We live within a curse and within the divine
We're born and raised to work
And then grow old and die
Cut and burnt then thrown into the tied
I have lived and died
Lie beneath the ground
Ascend into the sky
And winding down with the sun
I feel the curse inside my body
Running through my veins into my mind

i believe dan suffers from panic attacks, it sounds like the verse are an explanation of some of his symptons, and the chorus is asking why this has to happen to him
this could be what Jesus was feeling as He was crucified and buried. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me" is what He called out to God as He was dying on the cross. that's all i have for right now, since it's 2:30 AM and i haven't gotten much sleep for the past three days, which means my brain is pretty much shot. i'm sure headbanging and pseudo-hardcore dancing alone in my house to Zao turned up to max volume didn't do much for the 'ol brain cells either.
You guys forget that this is off of a CONCEPT album of Zao's entitled "The Funeral of God", where He abandons man: period.
Maybe it make sense now.
Whoever wrote the lyrics doesn't seem to be a very happy man...he sees our lives written before us by society and also that God has forsaken all mankind...so depressing. It's a great song musically though.
its fiction. see tony's post above. the album is a concept album that feeds off of the notion that God abandons mankind, (similar to what he does in the Flood story and to Sodom and Gomorrah) only in this case he completely abandons the world, leaving it to its own destruction. in the album, God DID forsake us, so its not necessarily a reflection on Dan Weyandt's views on God's relationship with society and mankind. Unhappy lyrics for an unhappy concept. But maybe seeing what happens in a concept like this has woken a few people up.

I think "curse inside my body" in the chorus should be 'chastice on my body.' Sounds like that. And the lyrics makes sense that way.
Also, Snare is right. That line is most definately a quote from Jesus.
why would jesus the savior say My God My God why have you forsaken me. he knew he was going to have die. i think it was more like God forgive them for they know not what they do. My God My God why have you forsaken me is what a woman called out to God when her only loved one died. i think i may be wrong.
Yep, your wrong.
Yep, your wrong.
Jesus said "my God, my God, why have you forsaken me" when he died on the cross and took on everyones sin. Because with all the sins on him, God couldn't look at him anymore and turned His face away from Jesus.
