Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.
And then you dream
Of a world with only windows
Inside you - you can hide you
You know
And then the night
You're just another empty shadow
No questions - no answers
No one to scream at you
Turn around and when you face the sun
We can make you be like everyone you know
Hey you - you're just master of the moon
And then the eyes
If you look at them they'll blind you
Who are you - what are you
Why do you scream at me
Turn around and when you face the sun
We can make you be like everyone you know
Hey you - you're just master of the moon
We can shake you make you over
We just need some time to
Shed some light upon your darkness
We need your mind
And then you dream again
In a world that only you know
Inside you - you can hide you
No one to scream at you
Turn around and when you face the sun
We can make you be like everyone you know
I'll turn away and never face the sun
You never make me be like you
I'm master of the moon
Of a world with only windows
Inside you - you can hide you
You know
And then the night
You're just another empty shadow
No questions - no answers
No one to scream at you
Turn around and when you face the sun
We can make you be like everyone you know
Hey you - you're just master of the moon
And then the eyes
If you look at them they'll blind you
Who are you - what are you
Why do you scream at me
Turn around and when you face the sun
We can make you be like everyone you know
Hey you - you're just master of the moon
We can shake you make you over
We just need some time to
Shed some light upon your darkness
We need your mind
And then you dream again
In a world that only you know
Inside you - you can hide you
No one to scream at you
Turn around and when you face the sun
We can make you be like everyone you know
I'll turn away and never face the sun
You never make me be like you
I'm master of the moon

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Amazing

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
This song was written about a friend of Ronnie's son, who is at the age where he is becoming defiant and doesn't want to do what anyone tells him, he wants to do what he wants.
I think, I remember a video from an interview where RJD said something about some teenager dealing with his hormones, or something like that...

Because of that, I initially thought the song was about homosexuality, but later I realized that I was wrong.

The Moon is a metaphor for the Childhood.

A Master of the Moon is a grown-up person, an Adult. This is about a child who is growing, and not listening to the adults. At the end, he grows up too, and says: "I'm master of the moon" (I finally grew up).

You are 100% right on this one. This is another great song from RJD.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that he said the Moon was a metaphor for darkness, and all the things that society as a whole tends to look down upon. So by declaring himself Master of the Moon, he is embracing his individuality, and rejecting conformity.
Uh... But the reason why this website exists is that people DO care what the songs mean... :P
It sort of sounds like this song deals with conformity... To my ears, that is... Then again, my ears are all screwed up, so...
This is just my personal interpretation, I think the song is supposed to be like an argument. But let's start with the chorus.
I think the "sun" is your average-joe middle of the road lifestyle. Go to college, get job, have babies, die. The "moon" would be breaking off of the path to do what YOU want to do.
So really, it makes sense that this song would be like an argument between father and son. The first verse hits me hard. "And then the night You're just another empty shadow No questions - no answers No one to scream at you". The subject of the song feels peace by finding his own way in life and not facing all of the timeless issues that come from the "standard' lifestyle.
Your thoughts?
Its like italian opera who cares what it means...it sounds great.
