L = P Lyrics

Alone in your dorm trying to stay warm, you're scared of the words that you might write, if you stay in again tonight. Like all the saints and whores who lay here before, you're scared of the things that you might do while you wait for him to come to you. (I understand. I understand.) Loneliness is pornography to them but to us it is an art. They won't read your biography, these men, they will only break your heart. But I read it, then I wrote it. I read it, then I wrote it. I read it, then I wrote it again. Alone in your dorm, you pull the fire alarm. You're scared of the words that you might write if you stay in again tonight.> In your tattered mess of a wedding dress, you're scared of the things that you might do while you wait for him to come to you. (I understand. I understand.) Loneliness is pornography to them but to us it is an art. They won't read your biography, these men, they will only break your heart. But I read it, then I wrote it. I read it, then I wrote it. I read it, then I wrote it again. Out in front of your dorm a crowd will form.

yay to PLANES for adding this song for us, it's a treasure, i only have one MF ep so far, this (along with the rest on the ep) is a special one. I personally know the feeling of some of the songs lyrics. being afraid to spend another night alone, scared of the thoughts & feelings you might have... However i don't get the whole "To us it is an art" and "out in front of your dorm a crowd will form.." ugh my brain is not functioning right i'd need a little help on this one.

I agree with that, definitely... it is about mental instability and being afraid of oneself. I think "to us it is an art" is about the way this condition becomes an identity to people... and the continuity one feels with others in similar situations. Look at the Conor Oberst depression phenomenon; people can get carried away. Of course that's on a far more superficial level, glamorizing self-destruction. Eh, who knows.

Hmmm...I always thought of "the crowd forming" as an effect of a suicide. Ya know like maybe jumping from the roof. But i dont know. Great song.

Yes, I think the line "a crowd will form" is perhaps about the character's suicide -- but remember that earlier in the song, she pulls the fire alarm. Maybe this is just the crowd's reaction revealed later in the song for balance/repetition.
