Ageless Beauty Lyrics
Ageless beauty
Cruelty makes its holes
But on the shoreline
Time will hold its promise
We will always be a light
You can see it from the surface
See it?
Tattered fingers
Linger on the warm and foolish
Hardened faces
Graceless, we'll lose the battle
We will always be a light
You can see it from the surface
See it?
Oceans won't freeze
So loosen your heart
Underestimated
Undefeated in this love
We will always be a light
You can see it from the surface
See it?
Cruelty makes its holes
But on the shoreline
Time will hold its promise
You can see it from the surface
See it?
Linger on the warm and foolish
Hardened faces
Graceless, we'll lose the battle
You can see it from the surface
See it?
So loosen your heart
Underestimated
Undefeated in this love
You can see it from the surface
See it?

Just to let everyone know, there are TWO versions of this song--this may explain some of the lyrical differences. They released an EP in 2001 with two different versions, one a radio version and one the one that would be later on used on Set Yourself On Fire -- they sound very, very different and differ in content.
I heard this one on the radio and thought she was saying "You will always be the one." I never even questioned it; that's exactly what it sounded like. It's depressing to see it's actually "We will always be a light." I like mine better. But this song still sounds great.
"it sounds like she says, 'you can see if for yourself and see it' but that is just what it sounds like to me"
Yeah it does sound like that, but I don't think that's what it is. But in any case I don't think you can tell by listening to it; the lyrics are too muddled and blended with the music to really tell.
I think the lyric is, "You can see it for yourself, I'll sing it."
The overriding metaphor of this song is that of a Lighthouse, and the protection it promises. All that talk of "light", "Shorelines", and Ocean's make this rather self-evident.
The line none of you can figure out is "We will always be a light - YOU CAN SEE IT FROM THE SURFACE, SEE IT?" in sticking with the lighthouse metaphor...
having seen them perform this song in person no less than 3 times I am quite certain of those lyrics, and they certainly make sense in the context of the song
i love the video. the whole center of the universe... its brilliant. <3
What's being said after "you can see it". i must know!
after they say 'you can see it' it sounds like she says, 'you can see if for yourself and see it' but that is just what it sounds like to me, also the beginning of those songs starts off with 'ageless beauty" then goes into the rest of the song
This is an awesome song! Too bad the lyrics aren't clearer... I thought it was "We will always be alright"... I like those words better.
It's still a really good song!
i always thought it was 'we will always be in love'. ah well good song. gonna say its about a relationship...ya..
These lyrics are very cryptic.. but beautiful like that. As for the meaning, I don't really know. I see a connection between time and the beauty of it. It sounds like someone providing optimistic advice though. Especially this verse:
Oceans won't freeze So loosen your heart Underestimated Undefeated In this love
