I think the narrator just wants his girlfriend/wife to see that he is serious about her. I've heard of people who cheated, or flirted heavily, because they felt unappreciated. They wanted to see if their partner "really cared". I don't agree with playing games like that, but some people do it. This song is a response to those games.
