Anthrax Lyrics
there's anthrax in the envelope i opened in my dream
the sky is red and little kids are running, screaming in the street
i tried to run and save them but i had molasses feet
i keep having nightmares and i'm scared to go to sleep
if you fall in i'll jump down
and touch your face while we're both sinking
(stinking thinking) we won't drown
you are my friend
and what we're doing's too important
for our lives to end quite yet
in montreal i got so mad, someone broke into the van
stole my guitar and aaron's bag
then we turned on cnn, watched the towers fall again
and realized that our lives aren't so bad
this is just a test take it with love and you will pass
you will be rewarded if you do your very best
nothing ever goes as planned so don't take anything for granted
if you do the world will kick your ass
the air is filled with computers and carpets
skin and bones and telephones and file cabinets
coke machines, firemen, landing gear, and cement
they say that it's okay but i say don't breathe in
the air is filled with computers and carpets
skin and bones and telephones and file cabinets
coke machines, firemen, landing gear, and cement
they say that it's okay but i say don't breathe that shit in
an angel named gabriel is watching over you
he was a friend mistreated now he's dead so say you're sorry to him
when you say your prayers tonight if you make amends
the gates to heaven here on earth will open up again
if you fall in i'll jump down
and touch your face while we're both sinking
(stinking thinking) we won't drown
you are my friend
and what we're doing's too important
for our lives to end quite yet

brilliant song, one of my faves , when i listen to this song it makes me think of the future and workin in a dead end job or something, and Kimya Dawsons worrying about that or something? And she shows this in her dream where theres all computers, telephones and file cabinets. I'm not really sure at all but it's a beautiful song and that's all that really matters
great song i must agree. but zapdavey, you're waayyy off. kimya dawsons songs are sometimes very political. this ones oh-so obviously about 9/11:
in montreal i got so mad, someone broke into the van stole my guitar and aaron's bag then we turned on cnn, watched the towers fall again and realized that our lives aren't so bad
this stansa is about how the towers falling made everything in kimyas life seem normal.
the air is filled with computers and carpets skin and bones and telephones and file cabinets coke machines, firemen, landing gear, and cement they say that it's okay but i say don't breathe that shit in
this is about the debry and such falling from the towers as they fell. its about the firemen who died, and how many people refused to go outside for days for fear of posinous gases outside.
if you fall in i'll jump down and touch your face while we're both sinking (stinking thinking) we won't drown you are my friend and what we're doing's too important for our lives to end quite yet
now this is about her dreaming shes in the tower with someone improtant to her. shes promising them if something happens to them she will always be there. and that she won't let them get hurt because the things that they are doing are to important, obviously...
but thats just my interpretaion :D
This is partially about 9/11, But she wrote it after her friend Aaron passed away. Her van was broken into and her guitar was stolen along with Aaron's journals and they sat in their hotel that night watching the 9/11 stuff happen. This is just a song she wrote about remembering that with him and how special he was.
I think knock_knock_who is completely right in that the song is about 9/11, but I also think that Kimya's using 9/11 as a metaphor for life with depression and getting through it with a friend.
if you fall in i'll jump down and touch your face while we're both sinking (stinking thinking) we won't drown you are my friend and what we're doing's too important for our lives to end quite yet
I think this part is about depression or a different mental disorder. "Stinking thinking" is a term used by this famous therapist (Marsha Linehan), and it's basically all these kinds of distorted thinking that people with mental disorders have. It's totally possible that Kimya could have heard the term, since tons of therapists across the country/world have adapted Linehan's methods. So, I think Kimya and her friend both suffer from depression or something and she's saying basically they can get through it together and they both have to keep living because their work is too important. But I think it's also meant more in the literal, as she and her friend fall in the twin towers, like knock_knock_who said--like I said before, I think she's using 9/11 as a metaphor.
this is just a test take it with love and you will pass you will be rewarded if you do your very best nothing ever goes as planned so don't take anything for granted if you do the world will kick your ass
Here she's saying that life is a test and you'll be rewarded (either during your life, like karma, or perhaps in an afterlife) if you are loving and thankful in your life and "do your very best."
So I think the song is basically saying "life is hard, and we can get through it together, because if we do we'll be rewarded."
It's probable that Kimya didn't intend for any of that (especially the "stinking thinking") to mean what I got out of it, but that's what this song means to me. (:
