Hey There Delilah Lyrics
To me, this song is personal to me. My best friend whos also the girl I wanna be with for the rest of my life is going to New York for college and I have to stay at home. It also means alot because everytime without fail, this song played each and everytime we spent time together. She means so much to me, so I made a slight change in the lyrics just for her. This song describes us perfectly and I am in love with her but we'll be thousands of miles apart... :'/
Yes.. I know how you feel. Keep your head up ;) Me and my girlfriend are 10,500 miles away eheh ;(

I don't find this song to be cute or adorable, and I surely don't want to be in Delilah's place, a place full of doubts and fears over what could happen to her far-reaching relationship.
Sure, it does express a deep affection across many miles, from this fellow's point of view. We don't know the girl's feelings on the situation, and while we can guess that the relationship's mutual, there's a lot of pain and doubt involved no matter what. These people, the guy at least, are trying their best to make their love work, despite the momentous obstacles of time and space.
This song resounds with the hope and struggle of working through a long-distance relationship. The singer's voice gracefully communicates that longing commitment, and the track as a whole captures the deep aching and drive one person can have for another. I don't wish that pain of separation on me or anyone else, but the loving bond this song expresses brings it close to my heart...and makes it incredibly successful as a bittersweet piece.
@madwhit I think you've captured the song perfectly. There is definitely a deep scene of anxiety in both the lyrics and his voice. The lyric "You be good, and don't you miss me" is particularity poignant and telling. He tells her to be good, to not cheat on him. And in the next breath tells her to not miss him, as if to reassure himself that she does indeed miss him.

This song is about dating a girl long distance that you're most definately in love with. Thus: "Oh it's what you do to me" and "I'm a thousand miles away but girl, tonight you look so pretty, yes you do Time Square can't shine as bright as you, I swear it's true"
Though he can't see her he knows she's beautiful at all times to him.
Whenever she misses him she has this song they share to refer back to but she also can only hear his voice over the phone and has to close her eyes and imagine him next to her hence,
"Hey there Delilah, don't you worry about the distance, I'm right there if you get lonely, give this song another listen Close your eyes, listen to my voice, it's my disguise, I'm by your side"
He'd also do anything for her to love him more than ever:
"Hey there Delilah, I've got so much left to say, if every simple song I wrote to you would take your breath away, I'd write it all Even more in love with me you'd fall, we'd have it all"
When they're together they're inseperable and everyone thinks it's so cheesy that they are so in love with eachother but they know that people can't understand what they're feeilng because they haven't found that someone yet, yet again hence:
"A thousand miles seems pretty far but they've got planes and trains and cars, I'd walk to you if I had no other way Our friends would all make fun of us, and we'll just laugh along because we know that none of them have felt this way" ^also proves it's a long distance relatiosnhip.
He's trying to tell her to stay strong, they only have a little bit of time left until they can be together every moment and that they can finally stop msising eachother because they'll practicly be attached at the hip. Here:
"Hey there Delilah, you be good and don't you miss me. Two more years and you'll be done with school and I'll be making history like I do You'll know it's all because of you, we can do whatever we want to Hey there Delilah, here's to you, this one's for you"
This song is so cute. It made me wish that I had a love like that with someone. I wonder if I'll ever be that in love. I hope so, otherwise my life would be meaningless.
my sister's horse delilah passed away today. she had to be put down. this song means so much.
You'll know it's all because of you We can do whatever we want to Hey there Delilah Here's to you This one's for you
When I was out in the country. I listened to this song 91 times while looking at the stars. It makes you happy, yet sad in someways.
I used to listen to this song all the time when I was in high school. It was one of my favorites. Now I'm in college and I have three years left at a fashion school in NYC. My boyfriend lives 400 miles away (nowheres near a thousand, I understand), and it's kind of hard. This is the first time I've listened to this song since years ago and it nearly made me cry. "I'd walk to you if I had no other way" is something we both say to each other, coincidentally. So beautiful.
aww :) I'm in a 650 mile relationship and tbh I think once you go past a certain point the distance makes no difference - it feels like much more than 1000 miles
