I've read that a lot of what's in this song is stuff that Eleanor overheard at work while she had an office job. All the office-supply references toward the beginning make sense in that context. All of the other stuff could easily have been overheard, too. That makes it a pretty pointless and nonsensical song in a way, but it all knd of fits together and the sound of the words really fits the style of the song. Sometimes the best songs are the ones that don't really try to say something obvious, and I think that applies here.

this song is about wanting to quit work at an office job and how work generally drives the writer of this song insane, just look at the lyrics and how they incorporate repulsive habits with the use of office supplies.

the chorus implies that the writer will take their two weeks notice and after that, leave their office job... the chorus also conveys the feeling of constrictedness, of having to "walk" like everyone else, and then they can finally "run" free after their two weeks is up.

i love the fiery furnaces, they fucking rock.

I think the song is not just about quitting an office job, but about a general desire to lead a more exciting life.
