The God Awful Truth Lyrics
The devil plays hits
where you’d least expect
Its cold and dark when you’re buried alive
See how it feels marching into the flames.
Its warm and bright when you’re burning alive
The spotlights search for you as long as the dust collects here
Lost in a cast of millions all in line before you.
That’s what the rats call eternity
All in before you.
No one watches anyway.
No one watches anyway.
Oh shit man.
Who am I to think I won’t be marching in to the flames right along with you?
Who am I to think I won’t be here waiting in a line for hell with you?
Voices distorted. Specks of grey
Good looks converted. Specks of grey
Specks of black and white
Spotlights search for you as long as the dust collects here.
Lost in a cast of millions
Fall in line
where you’d least expect
Its cold and dark when you’re buried alive
Its warm and bright when you’re burning alive
Lost in a cast of millions all in line before you.
That’s what the rats call eternity
All in before you.
No one watches anyway.
No one watches anyway.
Who am I to think I won’t be marching in to the flames right along with you?
Who am I to think I won’t be here waiting in a line for hell with you?
Voices distorted. Specks of grey
Good looks converted. Specks of grey
Specks of black and white
Lost in a cast of millions
Fall in line

This song rules. Seems to be about sinning to me. Or something. And how everyone is the same and sins. "lost in a cast of millions" "spotlight still searches foryou" yadda yadda. This song has sweet guitar.
agreed awesome song, probably about sinning and how some people think they are better then others when really were all the same
Television, everyone is addicted to television, that's what it's saying.
Television, everyone is addicted to television, that's what it's saying.
I think it's more about the movie industry/being a celebrity/wanting to be a celebrity.
I seems to me, the speaker (dave) starts out by criticising someone, or a group of people saying "hey your all going to hell". and then he comes to this conclusion that "wait, whos to say im not going to hell too?"
i think the whole idea is the speaker making a comparrison to our lives/afterlives to televison or film symbols.
The singer of fear before (Dave) has shown through all three fear before albums that he suffers from clear uncertainty to the existance of god, heaven and hell. or atleast this is seen on the first two albums, but with the 3rd album they have a song called the gift of fiction, which is more of a "god doesnt exist" song as opposed to his more common questioning. And concidering when they played gift of fiction live and he gave the sky the middle finger id assume thats whats up.
if u think about it, the whole bands theme might be about this considering the lyrics in this song reference their own name.
But honestly i could be totally off, for i didnt really dive into it as deep as i could have.
great song but the ending is uhhhhh really lame
the society we live in is hell. u cant run from society but for so long. thats the god awful truth
