Long Time Coming Lyrics

Tore it up and walked away
why'd you wanna go do that for?
threw your Lego in the lake
why'd you wanna go do that for?

And your a long time coming
a long time coming home.
Do you see me reeling
off the lines I've seen your
I've seen your eyes.

How can you grow old you were my triumph
How can you grow old you were my triumph

Turn your face into the squall.
Why'd you wanna go do that for?
You carved your name into the wall
Why'd you wanna go do that for?

And your a long time coming
a long time coming home.
Do you see me reeling
off the lines I've seen your
I've seen your eyes.

How can you grow old you were my triumph
How can you grow old you were my triumph

But your a long time coming
a long time coming home.
Do you see me reeling
off the lines I've seen your
I've seen your eyes.

How can you grow old you were my triumph
How can you grow old you were my triumph

But your a long time coming
a long time coming home.

Been a long time coming

greg said this song was 'about watching people you love losing their innocence and the naivety that you shared when you were younger, falling into the kind of adulthood you swore you never would, and wishing you could have done something about it. It;s a loss of innocence and also of spontaneity and people becoming really guarded and jaded. Friends stuck in jobs you know they don't wanna do, living in houses they don't wanna live in.'

i've also read that aaron has cried at a gig before whilst playing this song because its about a friend of theirs who died in a car crash.

there's a link there somewhere.

Myself i thinks sounds like a lament for a child from a parents perspective, sorta like their remembering how their child used to be when they was young. For example the line ' How can you grow old you were my Triumph? ' makes me think that this is what the parent is thinking, along the lines of thinking that when their child was young it was the parents triumph, shining glory , etc etc. And now that they have grown older and dont depend on them anymore the parent longs for their child to revert back to their childhood.

I agree with azpoo - the whole 'threw your lego in the lake' sounds the like a petulant child. As the child grew older and more troublesome the parent expresses their sadness that their little triumph has grown up and lost all innocence.

moreso, it sounds like it was someone they were found of, and then that person became mature and boring. or maybe they grew up, got old, and died. hence the "carve your name in the wall" part which could represent a tombstone?

Hell if i know.. I smoke crack.

I agree with codienecracker, that's what I think this song means. Maybe two people who were really similar and had so much in common, but all of a sudden they grew apart because for example: one of them became more mature...? Or it could also be about death...both seem good explanations for this song...Overall, it's an incredible song, and Delays are amazing. :)

Two people who were in love. Now totally different. Questioning each other actions. Probably not the intentional meaning. but thats what i think :).

dont really have an opinion on lyric content. the music and melody make me feel so happily relaxed when it comes on.
