Breakdown Lyrics
I hope this old train breaks down
So I can take a walk around and
See theres no time to see, 'cause...
Time is just a melody
But the people in the streets
Walk as fast as their feet can take 'em
I just rode through town
And though this window's got a view
But the frame I'm lookin through
Seems to have no concern for now
So for now...
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Well this engine screams out loud
Centipede gonna crawl westbound, and
I don't even make a sound, 'cause...
Its gonna sting me to leave this town
And the people in the streets
That I'll never get to meet
If these tracks don't bend somehow
And I got no time
That I got to get to get to
Where I dont need to be
Said...
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Let me please break down
You know you can't stop laughin'
If you got no control
Over the thoughts in your mind
That you kept and you know
That you don't know nothin'
But you dont need to know
'cause all the wisdom's in the trees
Not the glass windows
You can't stop wishin if you don't let go
Of the things that you find
And you lose and you know
But you keep on hoping
That the moment all goes
'cause the frames don't bite
With the blinds down low
You know you can't stop laughin'
If you got no control
Over the thoughts in your mind
That you kept and you know
That you don't know nothin'
But you dont need to know
'cause all the wisdom's in the trees
Not the glass windows
You can't stop wishin if you don't let go
Of the things that you find
And you lose and you know
But you keep on hoping

The meaning seems fairly apparent. It's a great song, but it's sort of out-of-place on a rap album. I love Jack Johnson, but he also feels out-of-place without his guitar.
i like jack johnson on this album because it gives it more variety and appeal to others. this is a great song
its not the "flame i'm looking through" its the FRAME i'm looking through. As in window frame.... duh
oh, and its about stopping to take the time to smell the roses in life
Yup, "stopping to take the time to smell the roses" pretty much sums it up. I heard this before I heard the acoustic version on In Between Dreams, and I can't say I like one better than the other, but when I discovered this one on White People it blew my mind. Just the layers in the song, and the whistling and hip hop drums... fucking great.
This was the first version i heard of this song. I didnt really get into Jack Johnsons new stuff as it became more popular. Anyway, I like this version better as i find it much more up beat and just so diffrent to hear.
As stated above its obvious "stop and smell the roses"
i challenge someone to make a jack johnson song that doesn't sound like, well, a jack johnson song.
