I've seen the bright lights of Memphis
And the Commodore Hotel
And underneath a street lamp I met a Southern belle
Well she took me to the river, where she cast her spell
And in that Southern moonlight, she sang a song so well

If you'll be my dixie chicken, I'll be your Tennessee lamb
And we can walk together down in dixieland
Down in dixieland

Well we made all the hot spots. My money flowed like wine
Then that low down Southern whiskey began to fog my mind
And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down
On the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town
But boy do I remember the strain of her refrain
The nights we spent together, and the way she called my name

If you'll be my dixie chicken, I'll be your Tennessee lamb
And we can walk together down in dixieland
Down in dixieland

Well it's been a year since she ran away
Yes that guitar player sure could play
She always liked to sing along
She's always handy with a song
Then one night in the lobby of the Commodore Hotel
I chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her well
And as he handed me a drink he began to hum a song
And all the boys there, at the bar, began to sign along

If you'll be my dixie chicken, I'll be your Tennessee lamb
And we can walk together down in dixieland
Down in dixieland

This song is about someone not familiar with city life, who had money. Then came to Memphis and became fascinated with the "Bright lights of Memphis and the Commodore Hotel".

Where he met a street prostitute "And underneath a street lamp I met a Southern belle". Who took him to her normal trick spot "Well she took me to the river, where she cast her spell"

At which point he began to fall in love with her "And in that Southern moonlight, she sang a song so well"

And the song was "If you'll be my dixie chicken, I'll be your Tennessee lamb And we can walk together down in dixieland Down in dixieland"

She figured he was rich and had fallen for her, so she decided to take him for all she could "Well we made all the hot spots. My money flowed like wine "

Then she realized he fell totally in love with her and was very drunk so she chose to play it out and marry him "Then that low down Southern whiskey began to fog my mind and I don't remember church bells or the money I put down on the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town"

Then after a year and a healthy sex life "Well it's been a year since she ran away, yes that guitar player sure could play, she always liked to sing along, she's always handy with a song"

However after a year has passed he winds up back where he met her and realizes who/what he married "Then one night in the lobby of the Commodore Hotel,I chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her well, and as he handed me a drink he began to hum a song, and all the boys there, at the bar, began to sign along.....

"If you'll be my dixie chicken, I'll be your Tennessee lamb and we can walk together down in dixieland down in dixieland"

At which point he realizes " All the boys there, at the bar" had been "To the river" with her.

Create your own epilogue, however this is Dixie Chicken if you listen to it carefully.

The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
