If time itself was his demeanor
There'd be no sunlight or a glimmer
Of sunlight landin' on the street
Some say girls must be discreet
Some say girls must be discreet
Nursing their fathers locked inside
They masqueraded as his bride

I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together
But there's somethin'
In your eyes that says
Maybe that's never
Never say never

They slump by the courthouse with windburn skin
That man could give a fuck
About the grin on your face
As you walk by, randy as a goat
He's sleepin' on papers
But he'd be warm in your coat

I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together
But there's somethin'
In your eyes that says
Maybe that's never
Never say never

There's no easy way to lose your sight
On the street, on the stairs
Who's on your flight
Old couple walks by, as ugly as sin
But he's got her, she's got him

I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together
But there's somethin'
In your eyes that says
Maybe that's never
Never say never

I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together
I might like you better
If we slept together

Oh, for crying in Manhattan! It is NOT about father/ daughter incest OR a slut. It is about a young romantic maiden questing for her heart's true hero and wondering how even a homeless person or a physically unsightly older person can have a partner while she remains unpartnered, and how many women end up marrying or in relationships with men who are like their fathers

CuteSparkina, I like your interpretation better (I can relate to it so much better!), but the sad truth is, it's just not true. Yes, Romeo Void actually said in one of their earlier videos that this song is indeed about incest, and not just about that, but also about homelessness and murder. The music video clears up a lot of the confusion.

Personally though, I think Deborah Iyall is the best singer ever! Big girls can rock too and all ya'll who say she's too fat can go eat a burger!

    i don't think it's about incest.

    to ME, an OPINION:

"Sunsuit girls must be discreet Nursing their fathers locked inside They masqueraded as his bride"

Many promiscuous girls must be "discreet" because a lot of these girls (at least that I know) don't have fathers in their lives and they try to fill that void by well...being whores. It's even in the psych handbook. check it.

There is a painting called ROMAN CHARITY, where an elderly gentleman in prison is being breastfed by his daughter. I think this line. “Nursing their fathers locked inside” May be inspired by that painting

To me it seems like the meaning is that there is someone for everyone and you never know who that person could be regardless of any age or any social differences. I may be wrong. I’m not getting any incest reference but everyone can interpret the lyrics differently

Had to read some of the comments and found NOBODY, got the meaning of this song. Maybe it's because you didnt grow up in the era that this song was released. Well I did, so let me explain it to you... Llife during the 80's, assuming you entered the decade around the age of 15 or older, was filled with wants and gets. If you wanted it all you had to do was buy it or show off and get it. This held true for sex as well, especially true. After Lyall had formed the leg W for all the band members at the time and some others that helped her band (and, dont you dare say a thing about her size, I refer to a joke that compares to a moped and proof). Anyway, she realized that all types of females are horny, from sunbathers to homeless, and some will do it wherever, and the whole time she is seen in her father's eyes as sweet and will be a perfect virgin bride. Anyway, that's it, it's simple and basic, and yes she does, because of its inclusion to the whole aspect, include incest. No pardon me as I return to 1984......

I'm pretty sure it's not about her dad and I'm also pretty sure you're being overly dramatic

Hmmm... after giving this one a great deal of thought and erudite study I have come to the conclusion that this song is about a woman who likes to breastfeed her imprisoned father and sleep with homeless men and airline passengers. Oh, and she also adheres to a philosophy she might hold a person in higher esteem if she has sex with them first (weirdly, this tends to coincide with my personal outlook on getting to know new women!) You really don't hear songs like this much anymore...

BillyBudd is right IMO. if people bash women for being outspoken about such subject today (check the comments...), you can imagine the names Debora was called, back in 1982. I would say that's how you make a stand about such subject in a fun, danceable way... if you can stand such small-minded people.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
