If you read the lyrics, to me it's about death, and facing up to the fact that its time to depart the world and meet the maker. For example
the lyrics- 'Time marches on never ending time keeps its own time here we stand at beginning' means time continues regardless and will continue even after death takes us and it is possible that we go back to the beginning at the end of our existence.
The lyrics- 'Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow means nothing at all If we don't hear the line when today places it's call' means that there is no tomorrow for the departed after death takes us.
The lyrics - 'So tell me how do you do finally I meet you you don't know what I've been through waiting and wondering about you... ' mean like a greeting to death 'how do you do' and all our lives we wonder what it will be like when we die.
The lyrics - 'I knew you'd come knocking one day unannounced like a thief in the night.' Mean we know it will happen sooner or later that death will steal us. Just my interpretation :)
great great song, and 'i got soul' you're right about it never getting old. so what of intepretation though? and old (now late) friend and i spent many hours kicking around whether it was about meeting your maker or about meeting the love of you life. i reckon both fit perfectly. run them through whilst listening... I did once manage to find an interview with the writer where the question was asked as it was driving us to distraction, but there was the usual mildly irritating "it means whatever you want it to" response. come on, you wrote it, you KNOW what it meant to you when you put pen to paper!!!

its a great song, apparently it uses samples from nina simone and a devo chord progression...easy song to like straight away especially if you dont know much house stuff like me
