Wisdom Lyrics

To others the pain was obvious
The colours of shame a bruise
Unjust
Abuse of trust can’t be wiped
I can’t remember why I chose to say goodbye
I’m terrified of what I might have severed
I tried to forget the drowning truth
Lashing inside my sea of youth
Life seemed unfair sacrifice for peace
I can’t remember why I chose to say goodbye
I’m terrified of what I might have severed
I ended up too high
But never learned to fly
So coming down I’m very thankful

I can’t remember why I chose to say goodbye
I’m terrified of what I might have severed
I ended up too high
But never learned to fly
So coming down I’m very thankful.

The song is about suicide.

There is one critical lyric that's wrong up here:

"Life seemed unfair sacrifice for peace"

should be

"Life seemed a fair sacrifice for peace" (this also comes from the liner notes)

i.e. giving up your life is a reaosnable trade for finall getting some peace...

I agree. I thought it was about suicide the first time I ever heard it.

I always took right to this song about love experiences. As many people are, I was cheated on by a man I cared so deeply about. After I cut him out of my life, I cut that limb of me off so to speak. The drama was gone, and to me "life seemed a fair sacrifice for peace", I was also terrified of "what I might have severed".

I went out and tried to rejoin the world, but love was never like it was in the past, ever. Then someone crossed my path, someone who lit up my whole world. It turned out this person was not available, however he opened my eyes to the realization that I had "ended up too high" flying high on the ideals of love. I had "never learnt to fly" using the wings of real love, I had to come back down to reality and see love for what it really was. :) Love is not perfect, it is a real part of life.

I think this song is about betrayal & regret and guilt. It reminds me of losing a loved one for reasons you can't really grasp. It's a beautiful song by Delerium & Kristy Thirsk.

i think this song is about being wise

One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I think it can be interpreted in a number of ways. One being the suicide angle. On first listen, I do think this song can be interpreted in the same vein as Silence. But it resonates more to me in the context of relationships. I think she speaks of an abusive relationship for majority of the song. She "can't remember why [she] chose to say goodbye" because she still longs for the same relationship that has hurt her so much. She is living in denial, "tried to forget the drowning truth." Her relationship was her life. When she severs the relationship, she finds peace, "life seemed a fair sacrifice for peace." By the end of the song, she has taken a new lover or maybe just a friend. Someone she truly trusts that is there to keep her grounded.

@Jo-elf also, through her trials she becomes wise and eventually learns to give into love/trust again.
