Oil On Panel Lyrics

The color has left you
No your colors fall
For her no one dreams
I've made a covenant with my eyes

All lust lashes out
When do I blink my love
Blink on illusion
On this warm bed of feathers my dove

Already gone
I never heard it come in
Life not mine to be taken
My mind not mine to be lost

I paint them roughly
I paint them in my sleep
Ira
Gula
Luxuria
Heavy as their holes are deep
Roma
Roma
Where is my country
Wholly in his hands
Worthy in his eye
You and I

I paint them roughly
I paint them in my sleep
Ira
Gula
Luxuria
Heavy as their holes are deep
Roma
Roma
Where is my country

Yeshua
Yeshua
Where you go take me with thee

Roma
Roma
Where is my country
Yeshua
Yeshua
Where you go take me with thee

Great great song...It gives me the creeps everytime I hear it. By the way I think it is "AND ALL your colors fall" not "No your colors fall"...

i agree, it's definitely "ALL your colors fall"

... and roma is the name of the ethnic group known as "gypsies." (they wonder, so they have no country)

ira, gula, and luxuria are the latin words for wrath, gluttony, and lust; three of the seven deadly sins. Yeshua is the hebrew name for Jesus (the name "Jesus" comes from a greek root).

i like the interpretation of "Roma" as the wandering people, but when listening to the song i always wonder if DEE implies the idea of Rome and Roman culture (since Roma is Italian for Rome) as something fundamental that is now lost because of human immorality (ira, gula and luxuria). therefore the only home he could find is in the hands of the Lord - in fact he becomes like the Roma people, he doesn't have any home since his home is everywhere because it is not a place.

I believe that this is a love song from Dante' to Beatrice Portinari(1266-1290). Dante' met Beatrice at the age of nine in Florence and fell in love at first sight. Dante' loved Beatrice for the rest of his life although she married another man and died three years later at the age of twenty-four. Afterward Dante' retreated and wrote poetry dedicated to her that was eventually published as "La Vita Nuova". "The color has left you...For her no one dreams...all lust lashes out"- Beatrice is dead "Already gone...never heard it coming"- unexpexted death "My mind not mine to be lost"- Dante' took this death hard "I paint them roughly..."- he deals with it artistically (here it says paint but in reality, poetry) Ira, gula, luxuria (wrath, gluttony and lust) heavy as their holes are deep" -the dark depths that this endeavor takes him "Roma...where is my country?"- I wander but I can't lose your memory "Wholly in his hands, worthy in his eyes you and I"- God would surely protect and approve of us "Yeshua, where you go take me with thee..."- Asking for comfort from God A traslated quote from "La Vita Nuova" "Behold, a diety stronger than I; who coming, shall rule over me." Just a guess...
