Last Fist Lyrics

what are you about
say something secret
in an old order hush
trouble and suffering in a lovely rhythm
a homespun clapboard blackstrap thrush

devoted loyal
undertake the toil
beware of what come natural
undertake the spoil
in a fist

it was cruel
and it came all too natural
as a younger child
a headstrong folklore strawrifle crutch
thresh a crop defiles

in a fist full of sand
it came natural in a fist
full of land

The line "beware of what come natural" is brilliant.

Many of his song lyrics using symbolisim with creative finesse speak volumes about generational dysfunctions that get passed down generation after generation .. The subtle that many don't see and if seen deny. This is what keeps us asleep with minds entranced.. 16 Horsepower a former group that Dee belong to has many songs that point to this.. Splinters Silver saddle Poor Mouth.. and many more... Fantastic ...

You posted the lyrics from "Twig" which is "scatter sleep from our minds entranced" by the way. This has very little to do with generational dysfunctions as THAT is taken from a chant by Saint Ambrose. While I think your hypothesis is interesting, I doubt that generational dysfunctions is a theme, most of his songs carry heavy christian/native american influences.

Back on to the meaning of THIS song, it seems to have something to do with childhood ( possibly David's childhood).
