Iter Impius Lyrics
I woke up today expecting to find all that I sought
and climb the mountains of the life I bought
Finally I'm at the top of every hierarchy
Unfortunately, there is no one left but me
I woke up today to a world that's ground to dust, dirt and stone
I'm the king upon this withering throne
I ruled every forest, every mountain, every sea
Now they're but ruins left to rule for me
And you see, it beckons me
Life turned its back on us
How could you just agree?
How? I just don't see
I woke up today to a world devoid of forests and trees
Drained of every ocean, every sea
Just like a useless brick upon the shore
the morning after the storm
that swept the bridge away
Relentless tide
No anger, just this relentless time
that calls us all on
But I'm never crossing that line
Leaving this world behind
I will stay on my own
on this bloodstained throne
I rule the ruins and wrecks
and the dust, dirt and stone
I rule rage, rod and rattling of bones
I am on my own
I am all alone
Everything is gone
Stuck forever here
Already cold
(x2)
I'm never crossing that line
Leaving this world behind
I will stay on my own
on this bloodstained throne
So cold
I'm never crossing that line
Leaving this world behind
I will stay on my own
on this bloodstained throne
I rule the ruins and wrecks
and the dirt and the dust and the stone
I'm the ruler of rage, rod and rust
and the rattling of bones
Ruler of ruin
I rule the ruins
and climb the mountains of the life I bought
Finally I'm at the top of every hierarchy
Unfortunately, there is no one left but me
I'm the king upon this withering throne
I ruled every forest, every mountain, every sea
Now they're but ruins left to rule for me

Amazing song, rather straightforward meaning. Check out Porcupine Tree - A Smart Kid for another great song about the last human.
awesome chill song by PoS.. a lot of obvious nature influences with oceans and seas and trees.
One of the most powerful choruses I\'ve ever heard
A fantastic song, one of my favourite off the album, one of my favourites by the band! The title is latin and can be translated as "Wicked Path". The song's about Mr. Money, a wealthy man who wanted to have it all. He was cryogenically frozen but when he woke it was to a used up world. No forests, no oceans, no people. Just the ruins left by mankind.
Mr. Money had himself cryogenically frozen until he could be made immortal. Since he has all the wealth and power, once he was made immortal he would essentially be God. Unfortunately, he wakes up finding that man has destroyed himself.
As he says, however, he refuses to die, saying that he would rather rule the destroyed world than 'cross the line'.
This is songwriting perfection. Lyrically, but especially musically.
Oh, the cruel moment of realization that all that you held dear means nothing or was destroyed. I hope I never get to feel that. Amazingly, Daniel gives the hedonistic ruthless capitalist quite a powerful jolt of sorrow. But maybe he's just sad, cause he has no one to rule over, no one to serve him, no one to order around... He has all the power in the world, but no one to use it on. Tough luck, karma's a b...
The meaning of the song in the context of the album has already been stated a couple of times. I just wanted to add that the song also works as a general story about how using any means necessary to reach your goals can sometimes make your eventual victory hollow and meaningless. As a topical pop-culture reference, Breaking Bad features a very similar storyline where Walt slowly destroys every reason he had for his actions in the first place, until he is left alone and broken with his mountain of money and blood on his hands.
Also, for anyone who likes the song, I would strongly suggest checking out the live performance version on "Be Live", it's an extremely touching version.
