One Thing Leads To Another Lyrics
The deception with tact
Just what are you trying to say?
You got a blank face which irritates
Communicate, pull out your party piece
You see dimensions in two
State your case with black or white
But when one little cross leads to shots, grit your teeth
You run for cover so discreet
Why don't they
Do what they say, say what you mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong, I know I listen too long
But then, one thing leads to another.
The impression that you sell
Passes in and out like a scent
But the long face that you see
Comes from living close to your fears
If this is up then I'm up but you're running out of sight
You've seen your name on the walls
And when one little bump leads to shock, miss a beat
You run for cover and there's heat
Why don't they
Do what they say, say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong, I know I listen too long
But then, one thing leads to another
One thing leads to another
Then it's easy to believe
Somebody's been lying to me
But when the wrong word goes in the right ear
I know you've been lying to me
It's getting rough, off the cuff I've got to say enough's enough
Bigger the harder he falls
But when the wrong antidote is like a bone in the throat
You run for cover in the heat
Why don't they
Do what they say, say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You tell me something wrong, I know I listen too long
But then, one thing leads to another
One thing leads to another
Just what are you trying to say?
You got a blank face which irritates

I could apply this song to soooooooooo many things. Politics, business, and false friends are way up on the list for me.
This is a very clever song, despite it's almost pop sound. It certainly sounds as if he's describing a president, or at least some type of leader.
This song has such a good vibe to it, it flows so well, it's just a perfectly made song I don't know what else to say about it.
It can mean a lot of things to different people. For me it describes a relationship.
Original thought was about being betrayed in a relationship, but all the comments are making me think deep.
To me, he’s talking about someone who gossips about others, trying to make him change his mind about his impression of that person.
The lead singer explained in an interview that this song is about malleable politicians. "If you're going to be a liar, you'd better be a damn good liar and remember what you said, or the whole thing's going to get pear shaped," said Curnin. "That was 30 years ago, and look where the system is now. A lot of people stand on ballot boxes and say a lot of things and lie in order to get elected and do nothing.
I always thought it was about drug addiction
Sorry, bradleyb, but this song is not about G. Bush. This song was released in 1983, 18 years before G.B. stole, I mean, was voted to the office. That's even 6 years before G.B. senior took office.
Interesting opinion though. I'm curious, what is in the lyrics that made you think of that?
Right idea, wrong presidency in my opinion. It definitley sounds like a political song alright. Since it came out in 1983 (thanks drodiac) it was probably about the Reagan administration.
heh heh. i listened to the song again and Rovian spin-doctor-politics fits right in...the song was waayyy ahead of it's time. fav lines: "You got a blank face which irritates". I don't see the drug addiction angle. It seems more about the deception in relationships and the disasters that follows...in a macro sense it certainly could be about politics.
