Heart Problems Lyrics
You got a problem with your heart
Follow the line down your left arm
If there's no money in your left hand
You could be pulled apart
You think it's more than just a cold?
Don't make a problem for you soul
Don't you go pulling out just yet, my friend
Everybody's getting old
But ooh, when you feel the pressure coming down
Well, I might do the same, myself
You can't write a song that's gonna help
your health
i got a problem with my sight
I'd like to say "We'll see it right"
but when you can't afford a broken nose
how can you afford to fight?
ooh, danny boy. we'll beat them
i know we won't live forever
but oh, wouldn't you like to live them down?
ooh, danny boy. we'll beat them
give up, and we're going nowhere
and ooh, wouldn't you like to live them down?
you got a problem with the times
your problems sound a lot like mine
they tell you "Crime, it doesn't pay"
but they'll make us pay to be victimixed
ooh, danny boy. we'll beat them
i know we won't live forever
but oh, wouldn't you like to live them down?

BUT OOH!
when you feel the pressure comin' down...
This is about the horrible condition of health care in the United States.
socheckit.
popping pills, leading to heart problems. listing medications (a lot are mental health realted) that give you heart problems. you make what it means.
sounds to me like Ted is singing about a person having health problems, and not being able to pay for the drugs they need.

i've always taken that part not literally. to me, that has a very clear statement about the drug companies in America. their heart is not their literal heart, but their metaphorical heart and compassion for others. if they dont have money, they dont care. if someone had "more than a cold," it doesn't matter how much pain they go through, it just matters how much money the drug companies get. thus, they've got a problem with their heart. they're heartless, souless, money-grubbing corporations.
i recently saw them in concert and ted himself said it was about the sad state of healthcare in america right before he played it. he is such a genius
I like part when they list the drugs,
I always imagine a Pharmisist/Doctor throwing hand fulls of each drug at poor danny boy
Not all the drugs are listed up there. I've been on a lot of them, prescribed and otherwise. The song is about having mental illness, but blaming it solely on a chemical imbalance, absolving the family of any responsibility. My family's been doing it for years. Rehab was the only thing that ever made me realize that it isn't one damaged individual being a burden on everyone else. It's EVERYONE's problem and healthy human relationships have to be part of any psychological treatment.
