I think it's pretty clear that this song is about a college student living in a dormitory. The guy that lives next to him is having a party and he's pissed about it because the noise is keeping him awake.
Later things get weird. I think that either the college student in question is drunk or high on some sort of drug (not an unlikely scenario for a college student) that makes him hallucinate or he eventually falls asleep and starts dreaming about the problem he had just before he fell asleep.
No matter. The images and feelings that the last two paragrapsh evoke are great.

Some one needs to make some underground, surreal, subverted, f*cked up, Donnie Darko-esque film outing and use TMS's music.

the songs about a schizophrenic. hes imagining the whole thing. saying its just a high kid dumbs down the song.
this makes me think about "The Shining"...well, the so-so-to-trashy TV remake where there's the party with all the scary ghosts and stuff and being paranoid because nobody sees em' but you. yeah. so did the guy in the wolf mask scare the life outta anybody else??? maybe it's just because of my irrational fear of werewolves...
2AM is about the "noise" of the modern world that can overwhelm and distress a person (even to the point of flirting with solipsism - "Who’s making that noise if I’m up here all alone?”), but eventually (hopefully) one comes to terms with the noise, and moreover is able to "sing your own song", that is, project sense onto the world from an enlightenment within. this song is about spiritual ephiphany and how such closes the neurotic gap between "self" and "world" - "there's no who and no why and no conflict": a Buddhist sentiment.
