I Just Need Myself Lyrics
I know that I don't love you,
But I tell you that I do.
But I only buy you flowers to get what I want from you.
You say that if you leave me, it will put me on the shelf,
But I don't need you, girl, I just need myself!
I just need myself!
You trust in all my lies,
You believe in what I say.
You think I'll be with you forever so you let me have my way.
I say "Stay with me, baby!" and I lavish you with wealth,
But I'll make it then I'll leave you, 'cause I just need myself.
I just need myself!
I know that I don't love you,
But I tell you that I do.
But I only buy you flowers to get what I want from you.
You say that if you leave me, it will put me on the shelf,
But I don't need you, girl, I just need myself!
I just need myself!
I just need myself!
I just need myself!
I just need myself!
I just need myself!
I just need myself!
I just need myself!
I just need myself.
But I tell you that I do.
But I only buy you flowers to get what I want from you.
You say that if you leave me, it will put me on the shelf,
But I don't need you, girl, I just need myself!
I just need myself!

Personally, I love this song. It has so much energy and Robert Smith's vocals are brilliant.
it's like: HA! I"M DECEIVING YOU! mwaha! kind of childish and selfish but that's the point, isn't it?
I love this song. Just goes to show, The Cure could do punk as well as anyone. :P
I'll second the "Robert Smith's vocals are brilliant." remark - especially on "Stay with me, baby!". It makes me laugh every time.
Anyway, I think of this song as a sort of punk version of Play For Today. Anyone agree?
But the lyrics here are a bit screwed up. Here's a (hopefully) more accurate version:
I know that I don't love you, But I tell you that I do. But I only buy you flowers to get what I want from you. You say that if you leave me, it will put me on the shelf, But I don't need you, girl, I just need myself! I just need myself!

They didn't waste anytime moving away from the more "punk" sounds of The Easy Cure. IMO - just as good as their other songs and styles. You have to include such songs when appreciating the Cure for who they are and have been for the last 30+ years.
very young when they recorded this one The title should be WE ARE VERY YOUNG PUNK MUCICIANS
