Oh my my
Little white lie
I swear I'm gonna make it right this time
It's like a radio
Turning way down low
Telling me things I do not know I know
Tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
Tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
Now who's to blame
We used to be the same
Now you won't let me speak your name, what a shame
It's a suicide
Shut up and drive
We're never gonna make the light but it's alright
Cos tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
Tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
Tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
Tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
Oh, tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
Little white lie
I swear I'm gonna make it right this time
Turning way down low
Telling me things I do not know I know
Tonight the monkey dies
Tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
We used to be the same
Now you won't let me speak your name, what a shame
Shut up and drive
We're never gonna make the light but it's alright
Tonight the monkey dies
Tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
Tonight the monkey dies
Tonight you will be mine
Tonight the monkey dies
Tonight the monkey dies

I'm pretty sure the "Monkey" in this song refers to the idea of having "a monkey on your back"
A "monkey on your back" is a long-standing burden. It's something that's been hanging over your head or nagging you at the back of your mind. More than that, it's something that you let bother you more than you probably should.
If you have a long and successful career, but you never completed your degree, then the unfinished degree is a "monkey on your back" - it bothers you even though you've been successful.
In the song, the "monkey on my back" is the uncommitted relationship. There's a woman he's always wanted to sleep with, and he's finally decided that tonight it's going to happen (and since we hear a man and a woman singing together, then it's obviously the two of them agreeing, as Vrshuddhi said)
@phileaux Thank you so much for this interpretation.

I like this song. This could mean many things. I think its about two people, who used to love each other...now they've realized its not going good. They know its not working but they want to keep it, make out of it as much as possible...'cuz its a suicide, already! love!!
Anyone have more insight into what this song means? What is the Monkey?

I think it's about 2 people who have been just friends, good friends. Now they've fallen in love with each other and want to go to bed with each other. Even though this will probably ruin their friendship. Before he was 'spanking the monkey' and now they are going for real...
Beautiful song. If you've ever read Neville Goddard you will know what it's about.
The 'suicide' is the old self that won't allow him to enter the state of being loved by this woman. The 'monkey' is the 'monkey mind' that won't let him stop thinking stupid thoughts about the old story between them, and he is finally ready to let go of the old state and move into the new one.
