Very simple. He's alone, he's going wrong, then God comes into his life and saves him. However, the evils of the world persist, and this is a cry for divine help to steady the path.
His words could very well be directed at us as an illustration of what the purpose of having the ability to freely choose to love God is. Our weakness becomes His power.
