I've been dreaming for so long
To find a meaning to understand
The secret of life
Why am I here to try again?

Will I always, will you always
See the truth when it stares you in the face?
Will I ever, will I never free myself
Breaking these chains?

I'd give my heart, I'd give my soul
I'd turn it back, it's my fault
Your destiny is forlorn
Have to live 'til it's undone
I'd give my heart, I'd give my soul
I'd turn it back and then at last I'll be on my way

I've been living for so long
Many seasons have passed me by
I've seen kingdoms trough ages
Rise and fall, I've seen it all

I've seen the horror, I've seen the wonders
Happening just in front of my eyes
Will I ever, will I never free myself by making it right?

I'd give my heart, I'd give my soul
I'd turn it back, it's my fault
Your destiny is forlorn
Have to live 'til it's undone
I'd give my heart, I'd give my soul
I'd turn it back and then at last I'll be on my way

Jillian, our dream ended long ago
All our stories and all our glory I held so dear
We won't be together
For ever and ever, no more tears
I'll always be here 'til the end

I'd give my heart, I'd give my soul
I'd turn it back, it's my fault
Your destiny is forlorn
Have to live 'til it's undone
I'd give my heart, I'd give my soul
I'd turn it back and then at last I'll be on my way

As several people have said, this song is based on the Deverry Series by Katherine Kerr and I know this is true because Sharen Den Adel said so when Within Temptation performed live at Astoria in 2007 and I was about 5 feet away from the stage at the time.

The song is written from the point of view of an old man called Nevyn (Translates a "No One") who in his youth was engaged to the most beautiful girl in Deverry, called Brangwen. Unfortunetly, due to various things going wrong, Brangwen ends up dead and Nevyn blames himself.

Nevyn swares an oath that he won't rest until he has repaid his debts to Brangwen, so the Lords of Wyrds grant him an unusualy long life so he can do this. Eventualy Brangwen in reborn as are various others who were involved in the tragedy, but it takes several life-times to get things remotley sorted and by this time Nevyn is an old man and Brangwen has been reincarnated as a young woman called Jill (Gylian) which is why the song sounds so regretful.

...I'm not sure how the story ends because I've only got to book 3 (The Bristling Wood: Dawnspell) but it's all very confusing and the story will flit from a past life-time to the present life-time and people who were involved in the past (Like when Brangwen was reborn as Lyssa and she has a son. Her son goes off to study the Dweomer - or sorcery - with Nevyn) will show up in the present life-time and help out in various ways.

    Any questions?

yeah i found it , i was right this song is about the book zilverdolk (silverdagger) van Katharine Kerr.

and someone above here was pretty close bacause he said it was about reincarnation. the book is about a guy who is turned immortal as a punishment until he made his wrong doings right again, so he is forced to live for ages. He lives fot centuries and he sees reincarnations (a magic abbility of his) of people he knew. jillian (or as it is written in the book: Gylian) is a girl he loved. and he meets her in several incarnations over like a thousand years.

so i was right , this song is about a book and as i already suspected the I person is immortal

People, this song used to be called Orff (NOT ORPH) because the chorus is based on part of Carl Orff's O Fortuna from his Carmina Burana. You may have heard O Fortuna before in commercials, but unless you listen to classical music, you won't know exactly what I'm talking about. Listen to it:

I got introduced to WT by a friend. We are pretty much the only ones who know about it here in NZ. I read they are from Holland.. so I asked the German exchange students about them.. and they said WT arent that popular! That suprises me.. because I think they are quite good to be honest.

Well they seem to have picked up in popularity now, well certainly in the UK they are getting a bit more coverage.

I think the spelling for this song was 'Orff' before, dunno what that means. Maybe just a random word while they came up with the proper title.
