Desperado Lyrics

I'm a gambler and I'm a runner.
But you knew that when you layed down.
I'm a picture of ugly stories.
I'm a killer and I'm a clown.

Step into the street by sundown.
Step into your last goodbye.
You're a target just by livin.
Twenty dollars will make you die.

I wear lace and I wear black leather.
My hands are lightening upon my guns.
My shots are clean and my shots are final.
My shots are deadly and when it's done.

You're as stiff as my smoking barrel.
You're as dead as a desert night.
You're a notch and I'm a legend.
You're at peace and I must hide.

Tell me where the hell I'm going.
Let my bones fall in the dust.
Can you hear that ghost thats calling?
As my colt begins to rust.
In the dust.

I'm a killer.
I'm a clown.
I'm a priest thats gone town.

Wtf, everything in this song indicates that it's about a western.

It was written for Jim Morrison after his death.

This is correct.

Actually, that's crap. Alice just likes to tell that story. The song was written before Morrison died. Alice does attempt to sing the verses in the style of Jim, perhaps in tribute or not. In any case don't believe everything Alice says. He is well known for spinning myths. I personally know 2 of the guys that were in this band and they'll back me up 100%.

judging by 20 dollars for a life it seems like he is writing about another era, not the '70's. i suppose it could be the west because of the dust and the desert but i always liked to think of it as the prohibition era in the land of the gansters and the charactures on the cover of greatest hits. great song about a man's descent into darkness and acting alone.

Love this song! I think this reminds me of more of a present day gunslinger.

I take this song at it's face value. He's talking to a Saloon whore in the first verse and tells the tale of his gun slinging which is obviously back in ye olde western times.
