come back brighter

I don't really get it. As a teenager, I put a lot of courage from this song, for fighting on in bad times and hard feelings. But now I guess I listen more carefully to songlyrics and there are a few things I don't see clear in this. So if anyone could help me: it would be very great!

The basic idea I get from the song is: when you feel bad, when you are down, it doesn't help by just sitting and waiting for better times. You have to fight and make it better yourself.

I don't know, is that right?

But then, if I got that right, I don't see how these lines match in it:

"sun hurts me, if I try to fight her"

--> seems to say that if you're fighting against these things, that you just get disappointed? Or is the sun a metaphor for fighting impossible fights? And saying that you have to clear out the possible things that you can change?

" I won't be sat here waiting for it, (or for you in the last chorus), so come and take me on"

--> If his general message is that you have to take care of yourself and of your good times (or: lighten up yourself and get stronger), here he seems to ask this to another person and that seems contradictory for me...

Yes, that's right, when you've "been down," you mustn't mope, just get on with things, do stuff, and you will recover from misery naturally ("come back brighter").

If you wallow in misery, the "black hole inside ya" will delude you into thinking that everything, including good things, are pointless (ie even "the sun hurts" you if you have a depressive attitude).

You gotta will yourself to "lighten up," and then you will "come back brighter!"
