this song is about how ed felt about the dropping of ross childress. i believe that the rain he walked through and drove through in the song was symbolic of the torrent of emotions surrounding this time. at a time when he went to think by himself there was an emotional downpour; thus "rain"
This song could mean a lot of things. I kinda of got the idea that it was about Ross. And then I opened my mind a bit more and thought about it. Another impression I got was him thinking about, 'Why would she choose him over me? What does he do and say that's different from me?' "Were his lies easier than my truth to believe?" Meaning, he's only lying to look good to you.
