The Man Who Came To Stay Lyrics
There's a man who came to stay
The boy he replaced, disappeared without a trace...
Stole all my songs and my style away
No-one would say what they wanted to say
So he was king for a day..
If you sail into the sun
Beware the eyes of green
And if the whole room tells you 'you are the one'
I defy you not to believe them, my son...
There's a man who came to stay...
Never showing on time
Out of his mind, diddly doo doo dine
Every single gig I play
Something's not right inside
Paranoia and pride, nowhere to hide...
If you sail into the sun, la la la la lala
Beware the eyes of green
And if the whole world tells you 'you are the one'
You must be hearing those voices again my son
If you sail into the sun
Please beware the eyes of green
And if it's all too much for you my son
Well, I'm here waiting where we began
The boy he replaced, disappeared without a trace...
Stole all my songs and my style away
No-one would say what they wanted to say
So he was king for a day..
If you sail into the sun
Beware the eyes of green
And if the whole room tells you 'you are the one'
I defy you not to believe them, my son...
Never showing on time
Out of his mind, diddly doo doo dine
Every single gig I play
Something's not right inside
Paranoia and pride, nowhere to hide...
Beware the eyes of green
And if the whole world tells you 'you are the one'
You must be hearing those voices again my son
Please beware the eyes of green
And if it's all too much for you my son
Well, I'm here waiting where we began

As the first two lines suggest it's a song about Pete's lost childhood.
This was written about Carlos \"Stole all my songs and my style away\" that is petes opinion.
I always thought the song was about Pete himself, and the problems he had. The man who came to stay was him, but by then, he didnt know himself.
"No-one would say what they wanted to say So he was king for a day.. "
That bits about McGee.
"Never showing on time Out of his mind, diddly doo doo dine Every single gig I play Something's not right inside Paranoia and pride, nowhere to hide..."
All thats obviously about Peter.
"If you sail into the sun, la la la la lala Beware the eyes of green"
Probably another McGee reference.
the song is obviously about Peter...nothing to do with McGhee
the man who came to stay, is the drug addicted Pete..its self explanitatory if you know
i think the song is about the tabloid character peter has changed into ' no-one would say wht they wanted to say so he was king for a day' basically all the fans, band, management etc. wont tell pete he's being a twat so he stays the same and rules over good old pete. verses about 'if the whole room tells you you are the one i defy you not to believe them my son' i tink this means that smaller scale audiences are far more trustworthy and that he doesn't believe all his own hype when it comes to 'if the whole WORLd tells you youre the one then u mustbe hearing those voices again my son'
Good song could see this being a single soon, i saw them last nyt at the manchester academy fuckin brilliant
It's not on the album and it was a b-side so probably not.
I think he got sued for this
