well, whatever your stance on the politics, the lyrics in this song are actually very underated.

all the time i heard this song in the past i thought he was just freestyling a load of old bilge to a great riff. but actually, if you take the the time to figure what they mean, they're really good!

its about a betrayal with his girlfriend, so he takes her to the place that they first met, kills her and then puts a bullet in his own head.

So much hatred for this song, just because it (apparently) tramples all over the untouchable Led Zeppelin. To me, they are two separate songs. Yet no one has looked at this song for what it is, preferring instead to castigate Puff Daddy. This one has a very real meaning for me.

To me, this is about a man coming to terms with a destructive relationship in his past. He's got so much pain inside caused by her, he wants to shout at her, fight her, tell her just how awful she was. He knows he can't literally do it and this frustrates him more.

The first batch of lyrics are where he's reflecting on himself. He can see the mistakes he made. He blames himself. He can also see the mistakes she made, all the things she did to break his trust in her. The fact that she can't see she did anything wrong frustrates him more.

The second batch of lyrics is his anger at her for her lies and deceit. He's empowered by this, which allowed him move past her and see the damage she did, but also that he LET her do. He's ashamed that he let her trample all over him. He's talking about revenge on her, wants the world to see her for what she truly is.

The "I close my eyes" part means to me that despite all of what he has discovered about her, he still misses her. At times he feels like a big part of him has died along with the relationship.

But the anger returns in the next batch of lyrics. He feels that she's trying to get back together with him but since he's discovered all the horrible things about her, he's determined to not let her back in. He feels surrounded by her, he can see her influence in everything. He loves her but knows they can't be together. He's realising just how beat down he became because of her, and that other people actually like him despite what she says. The anger at her is motivating him to improve himself, he doesn't forgive her for what she did. He won't let it happen again. He wants her to hurt like he does.

Then we go back to the first set of lyrics again. He goes back to reflecting about himself. Blaming himself for letting her hurt him. This often happens when you break from destructive relationships, yo-yo-ing between periods of self-criticism and anger at her.

He gets angry again, wanting her to see the hurt he has. He wants revenge. He wants her to think about what she has done for the rest of her life.

WHO THE FUCK DOES THIS FUCKING CUNT THINK HE FUCKING IS SAMPLING A FUCKING ZEPPELIN EPIC LIKE KASHMIR. WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT HE WILL END UP IN HELL FOR THIS. The lyrics to kashmir are fucking genious, deep and meaningful. these are just fucking horrible. A five year old could write these words if they knew what a hoe was. Puff Daddy should fucking die. I think i might shoot him.

Well....Puffy didnt exactly steal the Zep riff...since Page was featured in the song...but still it doesnt come close to Kashmir.

This is a great song. I love kashmir but that doesnt mean this song attomatically sux. bonzo u need to realize more music comin along all u do i dis new music and praise the old. ur a lil cocky bitch

I don't think it was Jimmy's decision. I doubt he would've let Puff Daddy do this song. I thought Jimmy Page died anyway? And if he didn't then that's deffinetly an old recording of his voice, cause I doubt he can still hit those same notes at his age.

Though I like Led Zeppelin alot more than I could even start to like Puff Daddy, this song isn't that bad, Puff Daddy has a rockish rap going on, so it's not that bad.

am i the only person who thinks this song is aight? it may not be on Kashmir's level by any stretch of the imagination however that riff and drum pattern fit the rap perfectly this would have been far better suited, lyrically and vocally, for KRS-One to rap over

I think this is a good song. You're right it's no where close to Kashmir's level of amazingness at all. But this version, gets me pumped, it seems to be more "hardcore", and if I'm in a bad mood this song gets me all like pumped up to go lift weights and get all the anger out. The rap pattern fits the drum and guitar riffs perfectly I do agree. I'm still wondering, when that Jimmy Page section was recorded, he's pretty old now, a good 70 years old. I know Jimmy is amazing, but 70 years old and still hitting those same notes? :/
