The Sadistic Motives Behind Bereavement Letters Lyrics

I'm so sorry to hear of your bitter loss
I know my words can only offer but so much comfort for you
Just know that I am here to ease your lonely feelings
To fill this time of grieving and remind you it's your fault
It's your fault for not caring
It's your fault for not knowing that he'd try again
And again, these words can only offer
But so much comfort for you
(Now here's where I should say that "he's in a better place"
but on the day he died, I could have sworn)
There came the strangest sound
It was as if the whole of heaven came crumbling
Fucking down! His last words shall shine in truthfulness -
"I hate you all!", scattered with his ashes upon your guilt.
I'm sure you must have done all that was in your power
To prevent this event from occurring
Just remember, I feel that it is entirely your fault
But again, these words can only offer
But so much comfort for you.

I think it's pretty unlikely to think that this was a real letter. In fact, I'm not sure it's supposed to even represent an actual letter at all, but rather the interpretation of them. The title of the song indicates that this is not a single exceptional letter, but that these are the motives behind bereavement letters in general.

The interpretation of the lyrics that I favor is that these are the internal thoughts and feelings of someone reading the bereavement letters they receive. They see the same hollow phrases again and again, all the while blaming themselves, thinking of every little moment when they could have stepped in, beating themselves up inside, condemning themselves.

Assuming that's the interpretation intended by the authors (and I don't know that it is), I think this song really represents a much more interesting and mature take on metal lyrics, dwelling less on broad simple physical conflicts in the real world and turning the gaze inward on the darker feelings we have towards ourselves.

These are quite possibly the most disturbing lines of text I have ever read. This song is clearly about how a person commited suicide and now the person in the song is blaming another friend or guardian for their death. Whether James recieved or sent this letter I do not know. On some interview I read they asked him where the inspiration for his lyrics came from, and he won't tell. Hmmm... this leads me to believe that he sent this letter to someone else. Whoa...

"It was as if the whole of heaven came crumbling fucking down!" Awesomeness ensues after this line. Awesome lyrics to this song. It appears to be consoling/rubbing in a suicide, and the note that accompanied it. Very eerie and very dark.

I love how genuinely mean spirited these lyrics are.

Very dark subject matter, the writer seems very bitter to the gaurdian or person who should have been responsible for the suicide victim.

However, I sceptical as to whether or not James wrote this to someone, or received it himself, the second one seems very unlikely. Had he himself been responsible, or at least blamed by someone for not being responsible for someone who committed suicide, I doubt he'd want to make a song about it.

In my opinion, these lyrics are merely a story being told, that doesnt mean they actually had to happen to James.

i agree with dingleberry, this really is the most disburbing set of lyrics i've ever seen (and, yes, i do listen to the occasional cannical corpse cd). i also agree with kijima - these lyrics are ridiculously mean-spirited. arsis is sick.
