Company Sin Lyrics
Ben got a job at the mine along the way.
He said everything was fine until that fatefulday .
That's when his life, started to change.
The day he went to help and go blow up that Mountain Range.
Ben Moved to town a year ago or maybe more
Straight out of High School
the whole world he had in store
Wanted to travel, needed some dough
Everybody worked the mine why should he say no.
Don't ask him why
Now things for him have changed
It's not his land, they're not his song's
He can't work out why he don't belong,
He part of Company
part of Company Sin.
Won't someone please tell the lad,
when Humbug did begin.
Now legend has it or so they say,
The Bones of an Ancient People,
Yeah, that's where they lay and,
Their Descendents, Hold close to Heart.
Oh that Mountain Range Ben was helping blow apart
And as I said for Ben things weren't quite right.
Now he's waking up, screaming every single night.
Hearing voices in a different tongue,
The screaming of the Old, the screaming of the Young
He part of Company
part of Company Sin.
Won't someone please tell the lad,
when Humbug did begin.
Now Ben moved on, job left him a while back
Now his thanking God that his boss gave him the sack.
But in the mirror, yes he can face.
The day he stopped helping go blow up that Sacred Place
He said everything was fine until that fatefulday .
That's when his life, started to change.
The day he went to help and go blow up that Mountain Range.
Straight out of High School
the whole world he had in store
Wanted to travel, needed some dough
Everybody worked the mine why should he say no.
Now things for him have changed
It's not his land, they're not his song's
He can't work out why he don't belong,
part of Company Sin.
Won't someone please tell the lad,

I love the Beat to this song! Its about a young guy getting a job in a mine, somewhere in Australia. He needs some money, so why not work the mines? Seems logical. But then he dreams of the Sacred place which he and the company are intruding on. This "Sacred Place' is a Spiritual site for the Aboriginal people of Australia. So the guilt builds up and he is plagued by these dreams, seeing faces of the ancestors of the aboriginal people and the spirits of the land. So when he is sacked, he's relieved that he is not part of this Company Sin.
This song is very deals with a BIG issue in Australia. The treatment of aboriginal sacred land is an issue that is pushed to the side by the government and all the one's before it. Some pieces of land have been 'given' back to them, such as Uluru (Ayres Rock), but the majority of land they hold sacred, is used for mining, development, tree plantations etc. Alot of the places they really want back are out of the question. Could you imagine John Howard handing over Port Jackson??
Just a couple of lines need editing in the Lyrics:
"Dont ask him why" then its: "he can't explain"
After T"he screaming of the Old.......Young" there is a repeat of the pre chorus "Dont ask him why...."
This song is very.... topical and... deals Soz bout the spelling and stuff
I m with you Lauren and I noticed the typos too. But WOW this is so deep. It s a beautiful song.
Definately a well balanced song. The beat of it is just great, I feel bad for not sussing out the lyrics sooner, they're such a great story. Johnnie B is an excellent story teller and it's just another great example.
I think the aborigional point is correct, but it also strikes on the intrusion of any of us into ancient land. Whether it's building highways over North American Native burial grounds, or digging mines into Australia Aborigional burial sites, it's the same sentiment.
So different...... its got a great opening with all the weird arse sounds and the chorus is realy catchy
Commit sin.[fuck with mother nature] Bare the consequence.[it'll all get back on your karma]
Its about a boy out of high school who want to travel and he needs money so he goes to the north west of austraila, and he realizes that the mine that he is working on is sacred grounds so he starts getting bad luck. Source John Butler lol
