Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice Lyrics
Long ago when he was young and restless
Suddenly Daddy saw the beckoning finger of fate
Don't make fun of Daddy's voice
Because he can't help it
When he was a teenage boy
Something got stuck in his throat
When you are young you crave affection
And it can come from the strangest direction
Don't make fun of Daddy's voice
Because he can't help it
When he was teenage boy
Something got stuck in his throat
Don't make fun of Daddy's voice
Because he can't help it
When he was teenage boy
Something got stuck in his throat
No te divertes con Papi
No te divertes con Papi
No te divertes con Papi
No te divertes con Papi
No te divertes con Papi
No te divertes con Papi
No te divertes con Papi
No te divertes con Papi

Because he can't help it
When he was a teenage boy
Something got stuck in his throat
And it can come from the strangest direction
Because he can't help it
When he was teenage boy
Something got stuck in his throat
Because he can't help it
When he was teenage boy

how dare you call him stevie
To the above comment: The gay connotations are obvious and if you don't hear them then it would make sense that YOU are as stupid as your implication that "gays are sick" is. On to more important matters, I think this song is fun, hillarious and meaningful. It can definately be taken as described above (by our more intelligent postersm, not "somnians") -- a late blooming realization that one is gay or it can also be seen as Morrissey's own recognition of his place as older statesman of alternative rock. Given all of the bands that have imitated his and the Smiths work -- it is an aknowledgement, almost Sunset Blvd-esque in it's campiness, of his place as an icon, or "Daddy"
Someone punched out Bono's teeth? EXCELLENT! Good job that man! ;D
Bono sings the way he does because he got his teeth punched out as a teenager - maybe related to this song?
And Bono is an elder statesman of rock :P
I thought the "something got stuck in his throat" was a double entendre meaning getting the gay accent and oral sex. Don't you think? Like getting a 'bone' stuck in your throat! I thought this song was hilarioius!!
Why should it be sick? Homosexuals references are regularly made in Morrissey's lyrics, just like allusions to criminals, romantics and perverts (hey!)
I watched "Who Put the 'M' in Manchester?" and I automatically thought he was referring to oral sex/lisp. His gestures even seems to rather support that idea.
I think this song is about the daddy being gay. Don't make fun of daddy's voice, because he speaks with the lisp stereotypical of gay men. The thing that got "stuck in his throat" was his "coming out of the closet." And it can come from the strangest direction means, obviously, kids experiment with things and Daddy found that he likes guys better.
How's that sound?
I was thinking about the double entendre too, and I think that could be it too.
who gives an eff? this song is surprisingly rockin' for Stevie.
Johnny Marr got stuck in his throat
