This is such a beautiful song.... it's saying that he really loves this girl, but he knows that she's not over another man and it hurts him.... I think the music in this song is sooo beautiful, i love the piano and his voice is great!!!

Again, the writing is secondary but it is the Feeling and Emotion in Whitley's Sad Voice that clinches it for me!-it's as if Keith loved Lorrie so much that the song is ultimately heartbreaking and sad. Make no mistake about it, Don't Close Your Eyes is not a happy song by any means-but then again, most Good Country is infused with heartache, hard living and true love-Keith Whitley walked life's lonely miles.
