Rainbows and Pots of Gold Lyrics
I heard you're doing well
Selling art and everything
I like you're stuff; good for you
I'll buy a piece or maybe two
Do you ever think of me?
Do you remember all our stupid dreams?
Rainbows and pots of gold
So much to prove before we got old
I took you places round the world
I miss you're face sometimes you know
You took my picture a thousand times
I bought them back; I don't mind
I lost my way but found my track
I'm sorry if I never listened back
I've been round; I've been up and down
And you missed the one we dressed like clowns
And how's your car and how's your life?
How's my friend; when's she gonna be your wife?
I'm sitting up writing down
These things I sometimes dream about
I knew your number off by heart
It's the only one I like to talk
It wasn't me using you
I trusted you; one of the few
And we had some laughs; had some rows
But in the end the walls came down
You like the place I'm living now
It's a shame you can't come around
And I've grown a lot since we last spoke
Got myself together; fixed what was broke
I wonder if we'll talk again
Or drink together just like then
I suppose it's different now it's new
Whoever points the finger at who
I really hope you're happy both of you
And maybe sometimes you miss me too
Selling art and everything
I like you're stuff; good for you
I'll buy a piece or maybe two
Do you remember all our stupid dreams?
Rainbows and pots of gold
So much to prove before we got old
I miss you're face sometimes you know
You took my picture a thousand times
I bought them back; I don't mind
I'm sorry if I never listened back
I've been round; I've been up and down
And you missed the one we dressed like clowns
How's my friend; when's she gonna be your wife?
I'm sitting up writing down
These things I sometimes dream about
It's the only one I like to talk
It wasn't me using you
I trusted you; one of the few
But in the end the walls came down
You like the place I'm living now
It's a shame you can't come around
Got myself together; fixed what was broke

Kelly wrote this song for his old friend/ band photographer who apparently started dating Kelly's girlfriend only 4 weeks after their 12-year relationship ended..
When Kelly found out he smashed up that dude's car, that's why he says in the song "How's your car and how's your life? How's my friend - when's she gonna be your wife?"..
This is so easy I think that might be why I'm the first to post. However this song is so good to lie back and drift away too. It's basically all about Kelly breaking up with his ex. She ran away with a friend of his I think, then Kelly went round and beat the crap out of the guys are with a baseball bat. Go Kelly!
i think hes reminiscing about the past he had with his girl and missing her alot and in the end he accepts it but just hopes that sometimes she'll miss him aswell
it was about his photographer going out with ex, after they split up. he felt betrayed by them both even though he dumped her. he went round and smashed up the guy's merc with a scaffold bar.
"And you missed the one we dressed like clowns "--the video for mr writer?(great vid, btw)
I love this song. I agree with the comments above. I wanted to point people to this song: http://www.songmeanings.net/lyric.php?lid=50509 which, lyrically, is very similar. I'm sure Tom Waits must be one of Kelly Jones' major influences for this song.
I'm not sure that the song is about a girl because he says "Hows my friend; when's she gonna be your wife?" so it kinda sounds like he's talking to a guy.... maybe an old friend?
I think he says "How's my friend, when she's gonna be a wife." just a friend of the girl he's singing the song to or something. anyways, i LOVE this song, its one of my favorite songs ever
excelent but so sad, i hate the feeling of loosing someone. and feeling that in a near future the lines:
I knew your number off by heart It's the only one I like to talk It wasn't me using you I trusted you; one of the few
will adapt perfectly to my reality. afraid, so afraid.
Yeh, the first posts are correct, this song is Kelly singing to a friend of his who ran off with his girl/ex girl. Hence "Hows my friend, when's se gonna be YOUR wife"
Brings back sad memories for me this song because my best friend went off with my ex and we havnt spoken since.
Every little bit of this song just fits with how i feel about that.
Anyay enjoy if you can, or in my case when you feel like you wanna remember those who meant something to us once listen to this song.
Peace out.
P.S. Some of the lyric above are wrong, I know em off by heart naturally, so they need correcting.
