The Groove Lyrics
So here it is again
Rape and pillage proves
To win the public vote
Someone tell me who will take the prize
And who takes the fall
So confused when you're lost in the groove
So confused when you're lost in the groove
Delta comes again
And her masks are shifting like a chameleon
Someone tell me why she breaks my fall
And then breaks my heart
So confused when you're lost in the groove
So confused when you're lost in the groove
Wow!
So confused when you're lost in the groove
So confused when you're lost in the groove
Rape and pillage proves
To win the public vote
Someone tell me who will take the prize
And who takes the fall
So confused when you're lost in the groove
And her masks are shifting like a chameleon
Someone tell me why she breaks my fall
And then breaks my heart
So confused when you're lost in the groove
So confused when you're lost in the groove

To me this song represents our society today.
"So here it is again Rape and pillage proves To win the public vote Someone tell me who will take the prize And who takes the fall"
"Rape and pillage" could refer to politicians campaigning tactics, not literal rape but in a metaphorical sense. The last two lines of this stanza "Someone tell me who will take the prize And who takes the fall" refer to how in today's society, everything is a competition where there has to be a winner and loser.
"So confused when you're lost in the groove"
The refrain refers to how nothing that we do as a society makes sense. Everything that we do, what is it really for? When you conform to society, you no longer think for yourself and become oblivious to the reasoning behind what you're doing.
"Delta comes again And her masks are shifting like a chameleon Someone tell me why she breaks my fall And then breaks my heart"
Short and simple, we're very superficial. We've lost the ability to be real to each other, or when we try to be we end up switching "masks" and turn our opinions. We can't choose something and stick with it.
Anyways this, like all Muse songs, is a wicked sweet song!
You know how lots of people think this song is about partying? i guess it makes sense from a successful-international-band but this song is too good to be about partying around. I think it's about some governmental problem that we all have to be winners or losers in our society. And the girl he referrers to in the second verse i think could have been a politician that he might have fallen in love with [it's a stretch, but it's a possibility]and this couple just has so much of nothing in common that it doesn't work out. 'the groove" that so many people think is actually legit music could be a mind-set that the government is inflicting on us, not music.
No idea on this one, although 'rape' is possibly the closest thing muse have ever come to swearing...
haha the radio 3 live feeling good performance that got them banned! youtube it!

I heard this is about the justice system in Britain. About the police and courts and how they don't work properly.
Why has hardly anybody commented on this? Christ, it has a riff hendrix would be proud of of and Matt wails over the top about 'The Groove'.
Truly amazing song from Muse, although maybe not as deep as some of their other songs.
Maybe about going to a club, and all the guys are showing up trying to get the girls, "The Groove" is the fake alter-ego they put on when trying to pick up any girl they can. "Most are shifting like a chameleon". Then he meets a girl who he really likes, but the next morning she only wanted a one night stand. "Someone tell me why she breaks my fall and then breaks my heart"
This song is going on their new album, right? In that case, I don't think the official lyrics have been released and I think that the line "And how most are shifting like a chameleon" should be "And her masks are shifting like a chameleon," which sounds better and makes more sense to me. "She" is downtown, the same "she" who breaks his fall and his heart.
I think this song is about the city, the nightlife, and getting lost in the excitement and fast-paced lifestyle of it.
I like this song. Not my favorite, not profound, but still pretty good.
to the first comment, they say "fuck" in the new single A Crying Shame, check it out.
This song was an America-only release, only as a B-side (as far as I'm aware) I enjoy this in the upmost, similar to SMBH in the way you can dance to it
really good, should have been in the album excellent b-side, perhaps not as extended as an full album track usually is for muse
