When i first heard this song i said to myself, "Hey I like this song. It's good." But then i listened to the lyrics a bit closer and then i thought to myself, "Actually I don't like this song. It upsets me." Now every time i hear it i can't help but to cry until i feel sick. The song is about someone drinking to forget. When something goes bad, they just order a drink and get kanshked. I had a friend called JJ once. He had the same problem as the person in the song. He was a good person, he went to church with me every sunday and we had some real good times. But JJ couldn't resist a pint of beer. One night he got so drunk that he set fire to all his clothes, claiming that they were possessed by the devil. He even burned his favourite 'Get out of my tree' t-shirt. We tried to make him stop drinking but he wouldn't listen. The last time i saw JJ alive, he was getting the shots in with his pal 'Rattles' mccaw. That night he ended up in hospital with a burst kidney. He died that night. And now when i hear this song it just makes me so crazy to think that gretchen is in someway glamourising alcohol. I miss you JJ. We all do.
