He seems to be singing specifically to a woman, though--either a girlfriend (or wife?) or literally, his "mama". This really, I think, catches the attitude of the homesick musician perfectly.

I want to come home.It's been so long since iv'e been away.And please.don't blame me cause i've tried.I'll be coming home soon to your love to stay. Tried so many times to Quit the dope But i've finally won the battle & i'm coming home to stay.
