for me this song is about feeling completely, totally, utterly useless. everything you do is futile and makes no difference anymore...and you only seem to actually like one thing in your life, if that.
I agree. It's about feeling useless. Everything he sings about seems not to work (ship isn't going to sea, he can't float, his friends are blind, his lady friends won't put out, etc. ). Good song.
