Oh Lyrics
The world is blowing up
The world is caving in
The world has lost her way again
But you are here with me
But you are here with me
Makes it OK
I hear you still talk to me
As if you're sitting in that dusty chair
Makes the hours easier to bear
I know despite the years alone
I'll always listen to you sing your sweet song
And if it's all the same to you
I love you oh so well
Like a kid loves candy and fresh snow
I love you oh so well
Enough to fill up heaven, overflow, and fill hell
Love you oh so well
And it's cold and darkness falls
It's as if you're in the next room so alive
I could swear I hear you singing to me
I love you oh so well
Like a kid loves candy and fresh snow
I love you oh so well
Enough to fill up heaven, overflow, and fill hell
The world is blowing up
The world is caving in
The world has lost her way again
But you are here with me
But you are here with me
Makes it OK
Oh girl you are singing to me still
I love you oh so well
Like a kid loves candy and fresh snow
I love you oh so well
Enough to fill up heaven overflow and fill hell
The world is caving in
The world has lost her way again
But you are here with me
But you are here with me
Makes it OK
As if you're sitting in that dusty chair
Makes the hours easier to bear
I know despite the years alone
I'll always listen to you sing your sweet song
And if it's all the same to you
Like a kid loves candy and fresh snow
I love you oh so well
Enough to fill up heaven, overflow, and fill hell
Love you oh so well
It's as if you're in the next room so alive
I could swear I hear you singing to me
Like a kid loves candy and fresh snow
I love you oh so well
Enough to fill up heaven, overflow, and fill hell
The world is caving in
The world has lost her way again
But you are here with me
But you are here with me
Makes it OK
Oh girl you are singing to me still
I love you oh so well
Like a kid loves candy and fresh snow
I love you oh so well
Enough to fill up heaven overflow and fill hell

Oh my god. Most of you are wrong. It's not about his sister. It's about Dave's grandfather, who fought Rommel in North Africa. Listen to Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City. He explains it before they play the song.
this song is a simple feel-good song. the main aspirations in this song is obviously love and euphoria. the line 'The world is blowing up The world is caving in The world has lost her way again But you are here with me But you are here with me Makes it ok ' shows the comfort he has taken in this person~this is felt by many people and therefore makes the song meaningful to numbers of listeners. i believe that this song was not 'meant' for anyone, but it seems to fit my situation well.
You gotta look at the verses to this song too though.. i here you still talk to me, as if your sitting in that dusty chair.... seems to me like its a song about someone who has either died or left... "despite the years alone"...
Oh yeah, definitely about death, or at least loss of some sort. Kind of an lighter response to the darker tone of some of the other songs on this album like "Gravedigger" and "Stay or Leave."
all i can say is that i love this song...
What a beautiful song. It's wonderfully simple
To me it seems that Dave is talking to the girl that he lost in his early songs (Halloween, and such). But he has unconditional love, his love has remained pure, "Like a kid loves candy and fresh snow." He still holds out hope and love. Great song.
i am amazed this song hasn't been commented on...its beautiful! its like a pure love. he is basically comparing it to an untainted love, like a childs love of things liek candy and fresh snow. its a full love...its true and simple all at the same time. he sings about remembering this kind of love, he imagines her in the dusty chair, or in the next room. it almost sounds liek she died?? idk this song is amazing though...
definatly about the purest form of love, a childs love of anything is pure and untainted, fresh snow paints an even more vivid picture of purity. he is still in love with someone that most likely died, he imagines her in a dusty chair or in the next room and the memories are enough to sustain him it seems. its beautiful.
I love this song too, and I cant believe it's just one comment. Its the best song on the record which by the way is fantastic as a whole too, if you ask me.
