So Damn Lucky Lyrics
Everything's different
My head in the clouds
I hit this corner
With my foot on the gas
I started sliding, I lose it
Everything's different just like that
Oh my God, wait and see
What will soon become of me
Frozen heart
Screaming wheels
Does that screaming come from me
So damn lucky, when went on ahead
You say, you say
I see you later
I heard what you said a few minutes later
I'm sliding
Everything's different, again
Oh my God, wait and see
What will soon become of me
This frozen heart
Screaming wheels
But does that screaming come from me
I'm dizzy from all this spinning
Now I'm thinking that you did all you could
When you said my love
Take it slowly
Ok, is what I said
Oh my God, wait and see
What will soon become of me
Frozen heart
Screaming wheels
But does that screaming come from me
Take me back, just before I was spinning
Take me back, just before I got dizzy
Take me back, amazing what a minute can do
Just like you
So, so, so, so, up, around, around, around
Amazing what a minute can do
Around, Around, Around
Ok....
My head in the clouds
With my foot on the gas
I started sliding, I lose it
Everything's different just like that
What will soon become of me
Frozen heart
Screaming wheels
Does that screaming come from me
So damn lucky, when went on ahead
You say, you say
I see you later
I heard what you said a few minutes later
I'm sliding
Everything's different, again
What will soon become of me
This frozen heart
Screaming wheels
But does that screaming come from me
I'm dizzy from all this spinning
Now I'm thinking that you did all you could
When you said my love
Take it slowly
Ok, is what I said
Oh my God, wait and see
What will soon become of me
Frozen heart
Screaming wheels
But does that screaming come from me
Take me back, just before I was spinning
Take me back, just before I got dizzy
Take me back, amazing what a minute can do
Just like you
So, so, so, so, up, around, around, around
Amazing what a minute can do
Around, Around, Around
Ok....

So damn lucky is about an experience of gettin in a car crash and seeing ur life flash before your very eyes. "amazing what a minute can do" and frozen heart, screaming wheels, but does that screaming come from me" not at all what i first thought it was about. i thought it was about a break up but whatever lol
I can see how this song is about a car crash but when i hear it it makes me think about someone falling in love and feeling that feeling you get when you first fall in love but now reading the lyrics again most positive its about a crash ..liked it better my way
This is an 'after-life journey' story. The person, seeing themself re-live the death experience is found contemplating what is in store for them when they die. The unknown is powerful. Yet the unknown is wrapped in a belief in God for the person cry's out to Him. The person is reminded that God has warned about excessive speed when God said "My Love, take it slowly..." and the advice was not heeded. Yet in that despair the person is reminded earlier that they are 'So damn lucky, that you' (referring to the redeemed Jesus) 'went on ahead and said', "I'll see you later..."
The person makes multiple plea to God to "Take me back, take me back, take me back with an wry attitude that it 'would be just like you God to show me this..."
The final two thoughts... Forgive me -- OK -- as if to say 'I bend to your will to take me.'
A personal note: My oldest daughter turned me on to DMB a few years ago, and for that I am thankful. She said he would "say things that would make sence to you." When I first heard this song on Some Devil it quickly became my favorite. About three weeks later a hard-driving, fun-loving, no-holds young man that our family had grown to love died while skiing bottomless snow the three days after Christmas, 2003. He was the epidomy of reckless and loving, a fantastic young man. The morning of his wake, I heard him singing this song to me and I knew this song had to be shared with his friends at the service. And it was. And now he is 'Forgiven and OK' with God.
This song in a literal sense seems to be about loosing control of the car he's driving, but I think its really about a relationship...
At one point he had total control, then he hit a curve, that is a slump in the relationship. His foot was still on the gas meaning that there was some sort of imbalance all of a sudden, perhaps hes putting more into the relationship than she is...because of his loss of control he is unsure what comes next and he is heart is frozen. He is still in love with her, but apparently she has moved on, "So damn lucky, that you went on ahead"...thus everything is different, yet his heart is stuck in the same place.
To quote Dave 'my songs can be interpreted in many different ways, take your pick' well maybe not the exact quote, dont bitch at me, but it is the right idea. i think that Dave wrote this song about a falling chair according to Dave but he often transforms his songs to have different interpretations. my opinion? its a husband leaving with his wife a minute behind and his hitting a sliding patch of ice and how his life is flashing in front of his eyes. great song
literally, this song is obviously about taking a turn to fast crashing, and having the 'light flash before our eyes monent'. but as all dave's songs its always deep than that i think it is about a relationship a someone went into and some how lost control of everything. this could be a relationship with god, or one with a love. i like the relationship with a significant other personally. i also think in the case for most of dave's songs, he attempts and enjoys having lyrics that can have their own meaning to different people. this makes it much more personable.
the song is about a car crash. Yet it is not the crash at all that makes this song so great. It is about a relationship and it is about love. The true meaning of love being that it is self-less. I mean he is about to die, yet he is saying, i'm so damn lucky because you're not here, you're ok, you're safe. In understanding that, we can understand true love. This song is genius. Dave is unbelievable as a songwriter. peace
my favorite part:
Now I'm thinking that you did all you could When you said my love Take it slowly Ok, is what I said
it makes me think of when you leave the house and mom gives all this seemingly stupid advice like "drive slow, be careful, watch out" and you don't take it seriously, until it's too late.
this song could be about a loved one, a parent, or anyone that cares about you. how lucky to have gone at separate times, but what if you were traveling together? would you still have put yourself at the risk? this whole album is about "what if"s and it seems like he's taking a retrospective look at his life.
I kinda thought that when he was saying "so damn lucky" he meant that even though he was dying in an accident, at least she wasn't in the car with him. Try it out next time you hear it.
