i'll put you back in your place we'll ride a thousand miles to find out we are empty. and if i wrote out our sins it would read a thousand lies and show us that we're empty.
youth spent and still so young if you could have her where would you be tonight.....tonight.
standing at attention dreams cascading around you like rushing water every pore is filled with hope.
oh, icarus tempting fate again altitude sickness setting in.
tradewinds bury fire from broken wings into arms below the ocean.
losing atmosphere eyes full of stars it chills you to the bone
paranoia translates the new tone.

i think this song is about not being happy or pleased about where you are in the moment, and knowing that if you try to change that you will fail but you do it anyway and always end up failing.
new hopesfall rocks!
the new cd starts off sort of timidly, and it really grows.. those are the best albums. i think it's about sort of feeling like a lot of time is gone and little's been gained, but at the same time if you'd stayed with a certain girl, would it be worse, would you be older with so much time and chances wasted? i don't know though.. not in a deep thinking mood.
This song talks about how a relationship has gone so far, but yet only emptiness resides. Spending the jidst of there youth together. It's debating if they should seperate, but all the while, the "what if?" they stay together remains, while the "what if?" of being with another exists too.
Icarus is the tale of a boy who flew with wax wings, while his father Daedalus told him to not fly high or else his wings will melt, or fly too low and his wings will get wet. He flew too high and plummeted into the ocean.
Should they tempt fate or shall they fly with broken wings?
i had never heard a song by hopesfall ever. then i picked up the AMP magazine with sAMPler 11 and it had this song. that cd had some of my favorite artists on it (hot water music, tsunami bomb, let it burn) and this was BY FAR the best song on the cd. great song.
Its about setting goals too high for yourself, or even since relationships always seem to be a popular lyrical topic to everyone here... about aspiring too far and too much in a relationship...
and watching it metaphorically crashing and burning to the ground... as you reached heights so high that they became dizzying... and fear sets in with seeing aspirations met so quickly, where would one be left to go?
"losing atmosphere eyes full of stars it chills you to the bone paranoia translates the new tone"
says it all...

wasn't icarus also the dude that rolled that was doomed to roll that rock up the hill and everytime he'd get close to the top it would get too heavy for him and roll back down the hill and he would have to do it again?
the song kinda sounds like that...sounds like the flying thing too though
I think that this song is about "tempting fate" and pushing things too far until you've pushed it past the limit and come crashing down.
i think this song is about hope...and its kind of funny because it is just like thrice's melting point of wax because they're both about icarus...its all about having ambitions and not settling for what people tell you what you can and cant do...thats why the opening lines are "ill put you back in your place..." someone in power or above you is telling you exactly where you belong, "we'll ride a thousand miles to find out we are empty..." which in the case of icarus if he were to ride a thousand miles(into the sky because his goal was to touch the sun) he would see all the stars and the unending beauty of space, and he would realize his life is nothing like that beauty, "...and if i wrote out our sins it would read a thousand lies" meaning if he wrote down what everybody told him he was doing wrong it would be lies, there isn't anything wrong with dreaming...the first verse is just saying that if you could accomplish your dreams where would you be and what would you do...like having the unattainable girl "...if you could have her..." now the second verse "losing atmosphere eyes full of stars" is just saying that you can always be full of hope, and dreams....i love this song it explains the artwork to the album...its all very center the story of icarus...the front of the cover is a burning pair of wings...and icarus incompasses the theme of the a types...which are personality types that are restless, impatiented, and aggressive...something that i think icarus was
Icarus was someone in a greek myth i think.. and he and his dad were on an island.. and his dad made some wings out of feathers and glue.. and he told icarus not to go to close to the sun.. and he was so excited and getting off the island, that he went to near the sun without thinking even with his dad telling him to come lower, and the wings set fire and icarus fell into the ocean and drowned.
"oh, icarus tempting fate again altitude sickness setting in.
tradewinds bury fire from broken wings into arms below the ocean."
I think the song is based on this but has multiple meanings.. but thats just my opinion.. xoxo
