The Mortician's Flame Lyrics
hunter of tears, relative pain
half of this world is dark with the stain
the stain of unknowing
the dead flower buds,
on smiling lips is innocent blood
the corpse of your god can only rot and grow cold
now promise me you'll kill me before I get old
I hear you on the telephone
moaning my doom
a cold woman will kill me in a darkened room
just enough, a heart attack
seal up my black body bag
take me home and hate me, love
bite the hand of our lost love
take your time and take your life
amputate with this dull knife
heaven's meat is on the stick
stir my pain with an ice pick
the chain-saw smile of the mortician shines
I still got all my fingers but somewhere I lost my mind
I can smell abortion on you
I can see through
I take the gun out of my mouth and point it at you
half of this world is dark with the stain
the stain of unknowing
the dead flower buds,
on smiling lips is innocent blood
now promise me you'll kill me before I get old
I hear you on the telephone
moaning my doom
a cold woman will kill me in a darkened room
seal up my black body bag
take me home and hate me, love
bite the hand of our lost love
take your time and take your life
amputate with this dull knife
heaven's meat is on the stick
stir my pain with an ice pick
I still got all my fingers but somewhere I lost my mind
I can smell abortion on you
I can see through
I take the gun out of my mouth and point it at you

If abortion is the core of the song, I think the perspective of a survived abortion attempt could make sense.
I've still got all my fingers but somewhere I lost my mind. I am still alive and whole... But knowing I was born already wanted dead has left me somewhat estranged from reality to a degree.
Just a thought
EerieOompaLoompa... I didn't realize some acid bath fans were such dicks. I mean, seriously, there aren't many people who have any great appreciation for this band. those that do... well, it'd be nice if you had some respect for their personal opinions of the songs. Especially since I think the abortion theory makes a lot of sense.
Acid Bath may not be "pro-life", but that's really just a bullshit title people give themselves anyway. You don't have to agree or disagree with abortion to accept the fact that it is indeed a fairly dark and disturbing situation to find yourself in. I mean, playing god by deciding whether another life will continue on or not even before it fully develops is a strange thing. Acid Bath touches on many different ideas on the subject of death that others rarely consider, and I think that's what makes them so... well... poetic. In an admittedly disturbing way. I dunno... thought I'd share with the class.
You're the dick. There is no room for personal opinion when it involves taking a human life. The heartbeat and brainwaves are of a HUMAN BEING, not a rock. You have a choice not to have sex; to use birth control; to choose adoption; and NOT to be dick by KILLING (yes, KILLING) a human child who you wouldn't otherwise kill if s/he weren't hidden in the womb. Since when did the birth canal become some god damned golden tunnel that creates life? I suggest you take a course on human anatomy. People who kill growing babies are "playing God."...

And men (no boys) who create child after child after child to be SLAUGHTERED due to pure selfishness (when adoption is free and available) because they won't wear a friggin' condom that the health department will give them for fucking free are the "dicks." If you are Christian, which obviously you're not, you wouldn't wonder how Jesus feels about the killing of HUMAN life in the womb. You'd know. Wear a fucking condom and stop helping to kill human life!
Not to sound cliche - or critical, because I think Dax Riggs is a genius - but I dont think a lot of his lyrics mean anything concrete. They talk about death, evil, psychedelia, nature... all in different ways. he is one of the most uniquely talented and gifted songwriters around today.
I like all the different thoughts here. If 10 people listen to these lyrics and hear 10 different things, Acid Bath has succeeded in creating art. If 10 people hear the lyrics and everyone thinks it means the same thing, it is not art; it is a commercial. The reasons I suggest this may not be about abortion are both based on the song title: The Mortician's Flame. 1.) Morticians do not handle the remains of voluntarily aborted fetuses. There is no funeral. To mention a mortician is to imply a funeral service and mourning. 2.) When do morticians use a flame? For cremation of bodies. Aborted fetuses are not formally cremated but disposed of as biohazardous material. The remains are eventually incinerated, this is true. (I am a mortician; I know this.) Everybody keep listening, and thinking, and having different opinions. Keep going and democracy may survive! Don't be afraid to argue!
I think this song is about a couple who find out they’re pregnant and the man wants to keep the baby, But the woman wants an abortion. And she gets one behind his back and it destroys him so he is going to kill himself but takes the gun out of his mouth and shoots her and then kills himself.
It's about the pointlessness of life, and it's done artistically.
I disagree, first off your assumption makes absolutley no sense, Acid Bath do not seem to be the type who are pro-life, considering much of their lyrics (unless Acid Bath has actually said that they are Pro-Life, I don't know if they have). It seems more likely that the song is about euthanasia, but I don't know because the lyrics are a bit too sinister for that to make perfect sense.
Oh, yeah. Also, in the demo, the song says "God gave me this scar that you can never undo, I take the gun..." etc. Maybe we're better off being born dead? Think abooot it.
i always assumed the song was about how people make money off death..
well i really like the toughts of people in this comment section. Here are a lot of ideas more plausible than mine but i ll leave it anyways. i think it s a song about a person with serious mental problems (depression, suicidal toughts etc)\n"hunter of tears, relative pain\nhalf of this world is dark with the stain"\n in a relationship with someone who makes their situation even worse\n"just enough, a heart attack\nseal up my black body bag\ntake me home and hate me, love\nbite the hand of our lost love\ntake your time and take your life\namputate with this dull knife\nheaven\'s meat is on the stick\nstir my pain with an ice pick"
