When I first heard about this cd I was disappointed that it was predominately covers. But when you realize... APC doesn't do covers, they MAKE their own songs with existing ones. It's truley incredibly, and I think to not only convey someone elses message, but to also convey your interpertation well is brilliant.
“When the levee breaks” is the point of no return. When it does happen you can sit back and relax and watch how things have gone to shit, because anything that could’ve or should’ve been done doesn’t matter anymore because the levees have broken. Quite simple really!
But I think this song is being sung from higher grounds, from above the flood waters, in a kindeh “I told you so” tone … anyhow once again we have all been warned!
@mota37 That's an interesting take on it; a little double entendre. The original "When the Levee Breaks" was written in 1929 by a husband & wife blues duo, Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie, from Mississippi. They penned the tune after witnessing firsthand the devestation caused by the Mississippi River massively overflowing her banks in 1927. The river flooded 10 different states, causing around $1 billion ($17 billion today) in damages and displacing close to a million people, the large majority of whom were poor African American share croppers and their families who literally had no where else to...

The river flooded 10 different states, causing around $1 billion ($17 billion today) in damages and displacing close to a million people, the large majority of whom were poor African American share croppers and their families who literally had no where else to go. APC decided to include their haunting version of the old blues tune on their album "Emotive" as a reaction to global warming and to lament the effects the subsequent climate changes is bringing, evidenced by a string of record breaking hurricanes that struck the Gulf & Atlantic Coasts from 2000 to 2004.
APC is one of the only bands who are able to take a song, do a cover, but also call it their own. They can take a old song, put a new beat to it, put a different emotion behind it, then it transforms into an APC song. Very intelligent band they are. I can't wait to hear their fourth album. If and when they create it. Tool is still pretty awesome too. A band where their creativity is beyond any other bands.
Keep this music alive, support APC, Tool, & Puscifer
really did surgery on my favorite zeppelin song.. but that's okay.. still gonna have to buy the cd.
It's still 5 and a half minutes long... they repeat the lines like crazy. As far as I can tell, that's all the whole song (other than the repeats). Let me know if you think there's anything else, and I'll change it.
it repeatsfora reasonand thats whatmakes it awesome... I agree with first comment guy but if you lived in louisiana and went through katrina you would understand why they changed it.

Okay this is NOT A LED ZEPPELIN COVER. It is a cover of Memphis Minnie's "When the Levee Breaks" from 1929. Zeppelin also did a cover of it. The song is about America.
Zeppelin version is much better... APC's is still cool thought... but not better than Led Zep's
This whole album is a bunch of covers. One of the biggest reasons that I didnt buy it.
"eMOTIVe, was released on November 2, 2004 (election day in the United States), and contains covers of anti-war songs by artists such as John Lennon ("Imagine") and Joni Mitchell ("Fiddle and the Drum")."

This is straight from Wikipedia, describing the point of all the covers. I believe all but 2 songs on this album are political song covers, and the other 2 are remakes of their own songs. I have also never heard a more relaxing song than this one.

I know there's that whole thing about how no remake is as good as the original... if it...
I know there's that whole thing about how no remake is as good as the original... if it has sentimental value. I haven't heard the original, seeing that Led Zeppelin's version isn't actually the original original. But, I think even though it seems a bit repetitive, it is still a great song.
I myself am not particularly fond of covers, but I still think you ought to get this one. I think it's part of the point, that we've been singing about these things for sometime now.
I LOVE apc, but this has to be their worst song ever. I'm a huge zep fan, and zep has done a lot of covers. When zep covered it though, it was much longer, and then they slowed it down and layed vocals over it, which gave it that sound.
I do love the album, this song is the only one i hate. i think the vocals suck, and the music is completely uninspired. APC could have done SO much better.
